Good to see that he is cutting down on fancy footwork/passes and trying to play more simple. The former worked well for him at youth level but senior football is a different ballgame. If he adapts his game as he has been doing, trophies and medals will easily come by.
Just the haircut to sort and we can then say weāre well on the way.
Thatās what I liked about his performance. It was understated. Nothing flashy, just kept everything real simple. Worked incredibly hard too. Looked like heād been playing in that role for years. Great to see him really developing now.
I watched the build up for Jotas goal. Over 30 passes, all of them fairly safe but getting nowhere in general. Then Curtis picks it up and knocks a long looping ball to Robbo about 50m away in which he was not even in acres of space himself. Robbo then get his assist to Jota from that pass.
Thatās top class from Curtis taking that risk where no one else would attempt.
A bit like a 26 year old?
He did the same against West ham too for the penalty.
Itās very much by design when the team hits balls cross field - itās a regular feature from the likes of Trent, Fab, Hendo, Van Dijk to a degree, and one of our main weapons to get the full backs in. So he kind of has to take the risk when it presents itself, otherwise I suspect Klopp and the coaches are saying to him you need to make that pass when itās on.
Not to discredit Curtis of course, but its no surprise that he can ping balls across like that - heās been doing it for years and years through all levels of football. Whatās important is heās being shaped by Klopp and co to be a cog in the system and do what he needs to do. The flash footwork stuff had to be toned down, and itās exciting to see that he can play a pivotal role in a midfield battle against a (supposed) title challenger, and not be noticed - i.e. no silly nonsense/mistakes.
Long may he continue to grow.
Curtis Jones vs. Ajax
79% Pass accuracy
2/4 Shots on target
1 Goal
2/2 Dribbles completed
7/15 Duels won
Wow! The goal was all about not giving up and expecting the keeper to make mistake, many players do not continue their run in such circumstances. That apart, what a performance. The arrogance he has on the ball, in a very positive way, is just brilliant. Grabbing the chances coming his way, where we have 7-8 midfielders is very positive from him and brilliant for us in the long run!
3 goals in 12 so far this season, just like his numbers in the whole of last season.
To me he is pressing himself for the first team when everyone is fit, the lad will if this form continues.
Iām going to get his name on the back of my shirt,itāll look brilliant.
Why would you want Curtis on the the of your shirt?
WHU would be glad to get him.
Hey, heās Curtis Jr.!
Or thatās what he calls himself.

Careful with that, youāll start walking around with a poor attitude.
ā¦well, a worse attitude.
Yep he is turning into a lovely little midfielderā¦ He looks to have all the required skills for that position but adds a little bit moreā¦ He has some real technician level ability and unlike Hendo and Gini has a proper eye for goal.
Always seems to have all the time in the world even when pressed.
Should be even better when he gets to play as LCM because he can cut in and shoot with his strong right foot.
A reason why Gini is being allowed to run down his contract? Thats the position Gini plays primarily.
Wijnaldum does a lot of defensive shift while Curtis is more offensive oriented. I think his is more Lallana/Keita/AOC type role.
