Curtis JONES: 2020/21

Just for this thread, right?

My answer would be indiscernible and logarithmic.

That said, he’d have less spotlight there, less pressure to deliver, he’d be playing against weaker defences and at a slower tempo (at Ajax at least)… But yes, I do agree with you. I presume that working with Stevie was actually the best thing that could have happened to his development, I can’t get that thought out of my head. All of a sudden, he wasn’t a flashy kid who’s dribbling player after player, he was on his way to becoming a complete midfielder.

He’s obviously not a first XI midfielder just yet, still quite a few things to iron out in his game but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t surprised at the rate of his development. At one point, I fully expected him to head out on loan. That’s out of the question for now, I just hope he remains fully fit and committed and listens to what Klopp and his team have to say to him.

When was this?

He was in the under18s when StevieG coached them.

Cheers. About 3 years ago, then, if my memory is correct on when Gerrard left for Scotland?

Up until two seasons ago, that’s when he left for Rangers. Jones looked a different player after working with Stevie - I could be reading too much into it but he even got his debut not too long after Stevie’s departure. He seemed to have cut down on fancy stuff, started playing with more simplicity. That’s been the story of his development so far.

Just a question, though its not likely to happen. Would you all sell Jones now for 40mil pounds? If not, would you ever sell him?

No.

Yes. No player is bigger than the club. But not for 40 million, he’s too big of a talent and a local too. Chamberlain and Keita cost about 90 million between them…

Absolutely no chance. He’s one of the best young players in the world, there is no realistic fee I’d sell him for.

I would not sell him too. A level above all our potential players now. Just a naughty question like if someone puts in a naughty bid like 50mil plus future clauses? It would divide opinions? Cos he is good but whether he will become world class still is some way to go so some in club might cash in?

Just random question like I said, I personally will not sell him unless its more than 100mil upfront

I wouldn’t sell him at any price. Homegrown, local lad and talented. Can’t put a price on that.

It would have to be a world record fee for me to even consider it. The fact he is home grown and club trained is worth a lot.

Plenty before him I would sell so no, and I don’t think now we even need to consider a loan, to me he is a first team player now, if I see him on the team sheet I don’t instantly think we’ve dropped a bit in quality there.

In fact with his deputising at right back have we found the replacement for Milner

Not all academy players can make the cut but Curtis definitely did already.

At the age of 19 he has already secured a spot in the first team squad of one of the biggest and best clubs in the world.

And he is on course to be a clear starter - if not by the end of this season then very likely during the next one.

Said it a few weeks ago already - If I’d be Keita or Ox I would be very concerned about my starting spot during the last few weeks.

None will pay 40 million at present. By the time he is deemed worth 40 million, he will be a regular and you wouldn’t sell a regular player.

Not for Ā£40m or anywhere near that. Under current circumstances nobody would offer what would be required to convince me to sell and he clearly wouldn’t accept such a move either.

There are only a few circumstances I could image his sale being considered.

1 He pulls a Sterling, develops an Ego/greedy attitude and we eventually cash in to the highest bidder to reluctantly move on a toxic personality before he runs down contract or something.

2 His development stalls/goes backwards (unlikely under Klopp) and he doesn’t achieve what it looks like he will. Personally don’t believe this one but eventually we would need to move him on to make room for next generation of academy prospects but being home grown he’d still be useful for Rota rules for some time first.

3 When he’s older after many years of service and he starts getting itchy feet to play elsewhere before he hangs up his boots. Let him move on for a decent fee to the right club for him (even if other clubs offer a little more) as he would have earned the right to choose his next destinstion within reason on fee involved. Hopefully this doesn’t happen either as how great would it be in this day and age if we have some one club servants? With guys like Trent and Curtis it’s possible.

Why is anyone discussing him leaving? Crazy, let the lad enjoy himself without any pressure.

As I said, just a naughty question, partly I am so bored having to wait till late tomorrow for our match. Unless there are some extreme circumstances, I believe this guy will enjoy a similar trajectory of TAA. We can pin our hopes on him to become one of our mainstay in the seasons to come.

And I don’t think Curtis Jones will read this thread so he will not feel stressed from our discussion :joy:
