Curtis JONES: 2021/22

Klopp does not give games to players who don’t earn it. What you are describing is simply a differing attitudes among managers in what a player needs to do to earn their shot.

OK different interpretation I guess. Players can earn it with Klopp away from our eyes. I guess I was talking about the fact that not all of Trents games during his development had been earned by previous performance on the pitch. Klopp sees these players on the training ground and assesses their attitudes and potential and stuff when determining if they’ve earned a shot. We fans just tend to go off what we see in matches.

Of course clubs make mistakes, or better to say, sometimes it’s difficult even for the best people in charge and even impossible to predict and make everyone happy, compared to the team’s goals at a certain period.

Trent did really well from the start, but also didn’t have the same competition for places as some of those. Having Nathaniel Clyne in front of you is nowhere near the same level as having someone like Hazard. I do think that De Bruyne was possibly somewhat a bigger mistake than Salah. But that’s also Chelsea and they have tons of players (not saying that all are destined to be the next Mo or Kevin).

People around Trent and Inglethorpe got together and agreed that RB is the best chance to break into Klopp’s team. That’s not to say he wouldn’t have made it otherwise.

The path (whatever that is) is good at Liverpool. It’s hard and it should be hard. Maybe should be a bit harder as well, as we cement ourselves even more as a winning side. Having a successful Liverpool side is most important, more than anything. I don’t mean blocking the path, but that it means that Liverpool are serial winners.

Though of course, the way we work under these owners, we have maybe more of an eye on younger players and not always/often buying the final/shiny product. But we also want to remain at the top level.

I just take it easy and step by step with these talents. I don’t like jumping too early onto cases like Curtis Jones thinking every time that it’s a player who will be forever with us and win trophies forever with us.

During our lifetime as Liverpool fans, we already had a bunch of those and will have in the future. Not all will have a forever successful career with us. You just hope that first and foremost the clubs is alive, working well and successful. Then the more local players can be part of that, those best talents, the better.

So in my step by step approach with these players, the most I can “give” to Curtis Jones is that he merits being part of this current Liverpool first team squad and the near future. For more than that, I’m gonna wait and see, not in a rush.

Jones is actually an easy example, Trent an even easier. It’s the Susos, Robinsons, Wisdoms and whoevers of this world. All kind of different level. Fans and media who quickly build a hype around them. We’ll have thousands of players not make it here. It’s not a shame as long as we make the best decisions more often than not and we’re successful.

He’s 20. He’s allowed to be inconsistent. I couldn’t understand why he played 90 against Preston when he was nailed on to start against Brighton. 3 games in 6 days after coming back from injury. No surprise he looked goosed on Saturday.

The coaches perhaps thought Thiago or Fab were closer than they were at the time the Preston team was selected. I have heard it mentioned previously by some on here that Curtis doesn’t have the tank at this point in time. I’ll be honest and say I don’t pay that much attention to whether players are blowing hard, and I hope Curtis does as TAA once insightfully mentioned to us which is to disguise fatigue, so if it is true he doesn’t have the stamina then it is a strange one that he would be chosen for so many games in a short period of time from his return.

Yes, could be right. Pep Ljinders gave a very upbeat assessment of Fabinho’s fitness just before the Preston game so maybe they thought he’d be ready for Brighton. I’m cutting Curtis some slack because of it. Certainly I don’t think there’s any problem with his attitude. It’s hard work playing in Liverpool’s midfield at the best of times and that was a tough game on Saturday on the back of two other games in the same week.

I’m not going to go into the Mourinho side of it because Limiescouse stated what I also think of that, but I’m half with you on what you say about Trent.

17/18 was his breakout year largely thanks to Clyne’s long term injury, who had played almost every minute the season before. But even in that year Klopp was very careful to shelter him by benching him in almost every challenging game we had. Gomez got those minutes instead. When Trent didn’t do too well, such as the United game, he was benched the following game. I’m not going to distort facts and suggest he was benched because Klopp was punishing him for a poor performance. Trent himself said he had attitude issues early in his career where he didn’t react the right way after a poor game. That again was Klopp shielding him.

Klopp was of course bang on when he was gushing about Trent in preseason (I think it was 12 months before in 16/17 preseason?) and he spent the 17/18 season easing a path for him. But we were very short in the RB position, and even then he had to share duties with a CB, Gomez, who took the majority of the PL games, 20, at RB.

Yes in part Klopp wanted to tread carefully with Trent’s career, but also because Trent needed to actually show that he deserved the spot.

It was really bad. How one game can change an opinion so drastically is beyond me.

Jones is only good when there’s no pressure on him. He’s reached his ceiling. He’s a less speedy version of AOC, etc etc.

It seems more personal dislike for a player when one game is considered to draw conclusions in such manner.

I’d have zero problem with Jones and Elliott mirroring Alexander-Arnold and Gomez coming through but not sure it’s as needed. We can take a more patient approach but still end up with similar level players by the end. You forget that Gomez had very little senior experience with us before that season too, and most of it was at LB.

Does anyone know anything about his injury?? Sounded like Klopp said he got a finger in the eye?!

Doubt it’s serious to be fair possibly linked to Tsimkas I doubt they had fisty cuffs but maybe a clash of heads or something.

Have you got fingers coming out of your head?
See a specialist if you have.

I wrote that before Klopp clarified what had happened yesterday.

Do you think that Jones should bulk up like those Bayern Munich players?

An eye-injury? Did anybody know this?

He was out before the international break with a scratched retina. It’s a long time to be out though.

Eye stuff can be very susceptible to changes in blood pressure and so its common for patients to have strict restrictions on physical activity while something is healing. No idea if that’s the case here, but its possible.

Disappointed and concerned with this

I’ve seen his posts with his girl in. There’s no way there is no physical activity going on.

It would make sense as the key is keeping blood pressure away from the eye  imagine that was the doctors recommendation…
