The seemingly absurd thing is part of the leniency is a conclusion that they got no sporting benefit from it. I just dont understand that line or argument. When you look at the players this relates to, many of them were key in the trophy wins they had. Surely Chelsea employed this tactic only because they thought it increased their chances of landing the player they wanted. So how does that not translate into contributing to their sporting success?
The Athletic podcast had a really interesting conversation about this case. A few themes:
This is actually quite an ominous outcome for City. I know the initial response was that the take away is light punishment = good precedent for city, but if you look closer its a bit of a sign post. The way the league has framed this is that Chelsea’s cooperation and good faith engagement was a key factor in how lenient the punishment was, and of course a huge part of city’s case is their obfuscation. That by itself leaves City open to punishment even if the core case cannot be proven because it is actually a clause in the terms of membership of the prem that clubs must act in good faith and cooperate in any investigation of them by the league. That makes it a bit of a cop out that the league would go easy on chelsea for doing what they are required to do, but it’s still a pretty loud signal to City
With that said, the punishment is still a bit shit. The worst bit is how the fine is being paid. When BlueCo bought the club the proceeds were supposed to go to funds to help Ukraine rebuild. 150m of it though was set aside to cover these sort of legal issues that may come up once issues with the old books were revealed and any balance left over at the end would be added to the bigger pro Ukraine fund. Well, that is where the fine is coming from. Chelsea arent paying it. Blue Co arent paying it as its money they have already handed over. The fucking people of Ukraine are paying it.
Rumour has it that they only told the Premier league about the illegal payments as it would come to light during investigations in regards to Abramovich from the government selling the club?
It was part of the purchase agreement. BlueCo were not capable of doing proper due diligence before closing the purchase because of the speed with which the deal had to eb done to keep Chelsea afloat. Both them and the league were aware there were likely a lot of dead bodies hidden in the books that would emerge during the post-purchase due diligence and so they agreed at the time that the purchase would be structured so any penalties that emerge would come from the payment they had already made
Looks like the Chelsea players are generally bellends. Not greeting the mascots, get plenty of red cards with horror challenges, find every possible ways to piss off opponents (and probably Tierney, but I have no problem with that, ) even before the start of the match…
PL and FA really needs to throw the book at Chelsea. They always find scummy ways to get around sanctions against them.

River Plate close to reaching an agreement with Chelsea for priority in youth players
River Plate is working on an agreement with the London club that would give them the option to match any offer received for their young talents. Furthermore, the Núñez-based club will be a priority destination for players from the English side who don’t have a place in their squad, as was the case with Kendry Páez.
Perhaps the most surprising signing of the transfer window was the arrival of Kendry Páez at River Plate . The Ecuadorian cut short his loan spell at Racing Strasbourg and joined on loan from Chelsea, the club that owns his rights. All indications are that this was the first step in an agreement that River Plate and the London club are close to finalizing, aimed at establishing a mutual priority for the loan and sale of youth players.
According to reports in recent hours, advanced negotiations are underway for a long-term strategic partnership between the two institutions, designed to provide them with sporting and economic benefits. The intention is to establish a kind of exchange of priorities regarding young talent in both directions.
The initial idea is to allow River Plate’s promising youth players to seamlessly transition to Chelsea , with negotiations streamlined to be more efficient than usual. The Blues would have a right of first refusal , meaning they could match any offer River Plate makes for a player. The destination could even be Racing Strasbourg, owned by the same group of investors.
On the other hand, just as happened with Kendry Páez, the London club where Enzo Fernández (a jewel of River Plate’s youth academy) shines could loan out some players who aren’t getting playing time at the Núñez club. Although River Plate will play in the Copa Sudamericana this year, the demands of the Copa Libertadores appear to be a key factor in the development of those who aren’t getting minutes in England. In any case, it’s difficult to imagine non-South American players arriving in Argentina.
From Crespo to Kendry Páez, the footballers who played for River and Chelsea
Currently, Enzo Fernández is captain and a key player for Chelsea ; while on this side, Kendry Páez is gradually earning a place in Eduardo Coudet’s River Plate. These are the two players who currently maintain a connection, but previously there were three stars from River’s youth academy who went to London: Hernán Crespo , Radamel Falcao, and Gonzalo Higuaín.
The “as a Muslim I 100% agree comment” but be excellent satire or just a bot because it’s Bengali.
British MP Rupert Lowe raised an issue with English-Bengali signage at London’s Whitechapel railway station. But it isn’t just Bangla script, there’s another Desi script that features prominently on signage at a London railway station. Gurmukhi is used at Southall station as a tribute to the Punjabi population and its contribution.
Fact remains they are on a run of five without scoring and that it’s not happened since the Titanic was afloat. This period maybe shit for us but that’s a level we haven’t yet sunk too.
Their form over the last 10 matches our form over the last 5.
