I’m sorry but I categorically refuse to accept any suggestions of financial impropriety or inaccurate reporting of figures by the upstanding paragon that is Chelsea Football Club!

That is staggeringly bad. Craploads of high interest debt, relatively short term, and an operating loss that exceeds turnover. The £200M for Chelsea Women is a fiction, but much of the rest looks quite real.
Yup and we all know what action is taken against clubs like these.
They might expand the suspended transfer ban if they aren’t careful.
Wonder if this is the reason they want 120m for Enzo and 100m for Neto.
There is the possible regulatory ban, but also the simple financial risk. The ownership have deep pockets, however not in the sort of range that the unaccountable sovereign wealth funds like UAE and Qatar. At some point, at least some of the Blue Co group expect to see value. Numbers this bad suggest that is not happening.
I can’t possibly hope to understand what all that means, but I presume it’s bad?
Manchester City will have to pay Chelseamore than £120m to land Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez if they try to complete a deal in the final two weeks of the transfer window. (Telegraph - subscription required), external
Chelsea want close to £100m if they are to sell Portugal winger Pedro Neto, 26, this summer with Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilallinked with a move. (Mail - subscription required), external
Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham are all also interested in Neto, who joined Chelseafor £54m from Wolves in 2024. (Metro)
Lolz
The reports of Bohley and Walter wanting an exit arent them looking at the mess and wanting to cut before it gets worse, or even in the case of Walter just needing money. It is reported they are trying to get a premium on their investment to reflect the increased valuation they think the club has achieved since they bought it.
These are smart succesful guys who have made a crap ton of money by understanding these things. But everything they have done points to decisions being made to a puppy just smashing on a key board until things happen spontaneously
“oh fuck, it looks like Rover just bought Rickie Lambert for 150 million”
It reeks of a spreadsheet somewhere using their own player valuations (Neto at 100M, for example) as the basis for what the club is worth.
Who could have guess buying 75 players a summer would cause financial issues?
Well I guess that one way to reduce the risk of losing players on a free at the end of their contract, Real Madrid are less likely to be interestedly in signing Chelsea Pensioners ![]()
But he was already signed to a 7 or 8 year contract ![]()
Yep, he was only a year into it and has been rewarded with a pay rise and further extension, potentially to 2034
This is the type of approach that ends up trying to shift players like neck tattoo.
