Darwin NUNEZ: 2022/23

Not that they need an excuse.

Just fucking bullshit isnā€™t it. Snide cuts get away with murder but any sign of retaliation and thatā€™s it. Completely unbalanced

are you refering to the palace game, or something that might (or might not) happen?

Something that might/might not happen. Most probably will

Thatā€™s the unfortunate part about his reaction. It sort of marks his cards moving forward. Defenders know they can wind him up, and refs will be watching for him too.

Heā€™s going to have to be squeaky clean, and my expectation is that it will be galling to see defenders pile in on him and refs do little to nothing about it.

If he somehow finds his Mo-like zen, and simply responds with goals, threatening play, and goals, I will take it.

Exactly. Iā€™d like to see the team (but I know Klopp wont do this) decide to say to Darwin that he has to just suck it up and never retaliate but that every borderline challenge on him will result in our players hounding the challenger and roughing him up in exchange. Its important that teams donā€™t think they can just get away with it. I want this team to be the cuntiest cunts in torycunt land, especially if we canā€™t win the league cos of cheaty.

Tbf if Gomez does the same thing to Haaland weā€™ll all be loving it

Would we? Itā€™s just not in the makeup of our teams. Hasnā€™t been since Souness. Gerrard and Carra used to do a bit here and there but only if someone else started something.

We donā€™t even do that right now, wish we would at least stand up for ourselves from time to time. Hated seeing ManĆ© get kicked around and same for Salah. Wish Hendo and Virg would put in a few hard tackles to let them know weā€™re not messing about

Yesā€¦we seem to have the protect team on pensā€¦keeping people away from the taker, Darwin might need a sidekick for a few gamesā€¦or change him to the wing if things get a bit tastyā€¦but Iā€™m sure, I hope heā€™ll manage his red mistā€¦

This is exactly the sort of group think that causes to lose their minds over perceived unfair ref decisions. People have convinced themselves that poor Darwin was pushed over the edge by some unfair treatment when in reality it was him being the prick. How wacked this guy multiple times and took wild swings at him several other times. The level of restraint from the defender was actually impressive. Darwin acted out often enough that he forced the ref to give him the appropriate punishment.

We all know he got the ā€˜red mistā€™ā€¦and heā€™s got to kerb itā€¦but I think some of us are trying to think howā€¦only he knows.

guessing you missed the tackle Nunez laid on Andersen around the 27th minute. thatā€™s when the fireworks started. wasnā€™t a good tackle at all. Iā€™m looking for a clip of it now

Missed that.

But my comment was also in general. We take a lot of physical punishment and donā€™t stand up for ourselves I feel

if by standing up for ourselves, you mean flopping around on the ground like a dickheadā€¦ then no we donā€™t.

However, if you look up the Fair Play award for the PL, youā€™ll find us top of the charts every season but one where we finished secondā€¦since 16/17 season which was Jurgenā€™s first full season at the club.

How is that ā€œstanding up for ourselvesā€?

I mean things like stick up for our forwards when they are constantly getting kicked. And yes tackle someone back when they kick our forwards.

All of our squad seem like decent human beings. A consequence of our ā€˜no dicksā€™ policy. In the mould of our manager. Weā€™ll win lots of fair play awards. But itā€™s one of the main reasons why we donā€™t get decisions and people think thereā€™s a grand conspiracy against us.

(IMO)

I donā€™t think the ā€œdark artsā€ is something that Jurgen subscribes to. Iā€™m all for a hard tackle when the moment calls for it, but for all of the shit that we complain about for the Holgateā€™s and Funes Mori tacklesā€¦weā€™d look like a bunch of hypocrites if we start head-hunting in retaliation.

that whole ā€œclass is permanentā€ thing we aspire to.

I secretly loved when Gerrard gave Herrera a good stomp (albeit a straight red) because that cunt had it coming, but timing and all thatā€¦ and I love that Milner subscribes to the old school tackle that seems to be lost on the new gen of kids coming up.

I hated that. The first time Iā€™d felt let down by Stevie G in 20 years.

Iā€™m all for the old school crunching tackle though

Those were disgusting asshole moves. ā€œDark Artsā€ would be proactively riling up opponents or deliberately trying to hurt themā€¦a la Pickford.

No. Never. Not even what Stevie did, that was dirty.

But someone kicks Salah 2-3 times or poleaxes Diaz like the Fulham fullback didā€¦someone else should thunder into a tackle on that culprit and also win the ball a la Carra (get Carraghered)

I think its possible to be tough and uncompromising within the rules.
Surely we can see that?

In the modern game Souness or Case wouldnā€™t last 5 minutes, but someone like Kante can stick in a tackle and let people know he means business.
In my view we lack that bit of steel.
Fabinho should be the enforcer but he seems to lack that bit of a bastard in himself.

I am not suggesting these mythical dark arts, but if Darwin brcame as effective as Suarez or Costa, I would be happy with that bit of edge to him.
