Darwin NUNEZ: 2022/23

And yet it still required two really bad decisions to both go against them for them to go out on GS. If they are subjected to only one of those (the Giminez handball or the foul on Nunez) then they’re through.

They were hard done by tonight with the decision on Cavani, how VAR didn’t call over the ref to view that again. No words.

That being said, they didn’t do enough over the 3 games and thus deservedly went home.

No they are not.

They have to score the penalty. Not guaranteed.

Sad for Nunez, as he wanted to do well with his country. Fine margins though. I thought he should have had a penalty. And Portugal took their foot off the pedal having already qualified, so even a good 2-0 win against Ghana didn’t see Uruguay progress.

Have a rest lad. Bit of training in Dubai. And then we will look forward to a storming second half to the season.

He was integrating quite well with Liverpool towards the break. Goals. Threat. Linking up a bit. I can’t wait to see him in action for us again. He is raw, definitely, but there’s a hell of a lot to like, and since he is ours, we circle the wagons around him when he is down, and we build him up again.

Suarez, Cavani, Muslera, Godin, Coates, Caceres - end of the golden era for Uruguay.

Huge pressure on Darwin and Fede Valverde to carry their national team in the future.

Coates

Hahaha

Spending time with his family before joining the others in Dubai

Is he wearing those shorts in homage to Stan Matthews circa 1953? :joy::thinking::nerd_face:

They look like Shaq left his trackie bottoms in the changing room and Darwin has snaffled them :0)

Hopefully he feels the love and cohesion of the group that assembles in Dubai, as teams exit the World Cup. He was starting to look really threatening for us, and I’d like him to pick up where he left off, and go from strength to strength.

Gus Poyet on Darwin Nunez:

“You [Nunez] are strong. You are quick. You don’t imagine how quick he is. Look at the results of the quickest players at the World Cup. He is one of the top. He can score goals in any manner.”

“But he needs to relax and be himself. And not be what the press wants you to be and how you are going to answer things. He was an outstanding player in Portugal and before with Almeria in Spain.”

“He is playing for a top team. He will get balls. Just play and relax, then he will be the number nine of Uruguay for many, many years.”

Ketchup bottle effect with him. Trust me.

I really don’t know what to think of him. He missed a hatful of chances against Man City and Aston Villa but emerged with two assists, the second of which was impossible - near the end of the game, he should be exhausted, no right to catch that ball… Yet he does catch it and Bajčetić scores his first. One of the strangest players I’ve seen, yet I want to see more and more of him.

Thing is that assist is as important as a goal really.

That first time volley was unlucky, you sort of have to look at each chance individually, the one Salah chased down was probably easier than any of his.

Every single time we won the ball back he gave his teammates an option in behind. Missing chances is frustrating, but it isn’t half as frustrating as losing the ball in your own half because you’ve got no out ball to hit up front.

His running relieves so much pressure on the team that even in his wasteful games he’s an asset. And even in his wasteful games he contributes to us scoring goals.

I really don’t know how any Liverpool fan can watch him and dislike his contribution, he’s fantastic.

He’s only 23. Very excited for whats to come.

Been the liveliest player every time he’s on the pitch.

He’ll find his shooting feet sooner or later and when he does, oh my lord.

He works hard, keeps defender’s busy, gives assists and as long we keep winning our PL matches I don’t care if he misses some

This lad is special. You don’t miss a bunch of chances and still be instrumental for a win.

Yes he’s missing chances but he’s getting in scoring positions time after time and he’s assisting, I love the guy just like our fans in the stadium.:heart:
