Everyone can choose what they want to see with him. Missing chances, poor
decisions, questionable technique…
Or pace, power, desire, and the willingness to run at and over defenders again and again and again until something good happens.
There’s talent there for sure but just needs a bit more finesse. Hopefully that comes plus taking a few more of these chances.
Gakpo will take him under his wing.
Has somebody hacked your account? You used to give some really insightful comments. Now? It’s all negative, run of the mill stuff.
Will probably be the best player in the world when he sharpens up his finishing
Have you had a bad Christmas?
This is a Liverpool forum. Discuss stuff, go back and forth, etc. Generally though we are fair to one another.
You sound like a shit Twitter user.
I haven’t seen much of you before, but you are spreading your own special brand of Christmas cheer in a few threads.
I hate it when reds are shit to each other.
Darwin is f****** awesome!
LOL
To me he has already fulfilled my threshold as a Liverpool player, respectful, passionate and works hard for the team, in short a great attitude. But I think most criticism towards him is by no means a hit on him but rather a reality check that in order for him to fulfill his potential as a world class forward, he has to score more from the position he is put into. Of course he has already prove he is worthy of this squad but its not unfair to say that even at 23, he has probably 2 seasons to propel himself onto a world class striker and so fair, the putting away chances part is the one that’s lacking.
Worked his socks off, offered a lot of runs in behind Villa’s high back line. Needs to be more composed with some of those chances, especially the big one he had. Take a touch and finish properly.
I wonder, if Haaland did not exist, would the level of criticism even come anywhere close…
This is my thinking.
I’m still expecting he will score 25 in all competitions for a goal scorer that is what you want if you have others doing similar and in Salah we do.
It’s mindboggling how much sway stats and goals in particular hold over pundits and fans in general.
Haaland is a fantastic converter of chances but apart from that he offers absolutely nothing. If his supply is cut off, he completely disappears, it’s like they’re playing with 10.
Nunez on the other hand does everything. He defends, he attacks, he runs non-stop, he sets up goals and occassionaly he scores them too. If his conversion rate was anything close to his average, they would be talking about how extraordinary of a player he is, when he is in fact already something special. Once he manages to settle down in front of the goal and starts banging them with greater regularity, it will be no contest between them.
Let the TV “experts” and the twitter stat nerds jack off with Haaland’s goal numbers until they faint, the reality is that Nunez, even now when he is missing a boatload of opportunities, is contributing more towards his team success on the pitch.
I have to take objection to this because stats tell a good story, but unless you’re able to describe exactly what you’re looking for in statistical terms, they’re often very misleading. I like some of @Sweeting’s output with regard to this, especially where he caveats that it’s not a complete story.
That’s exactly what I am getting at. They do tell a story but like with everything else context is required. It’s like the idiots who claim that Ronaldo is in the same tier as Messi because his total numbers are similar.
Neither of them are Origi though.
My take is that Milan only got his free transfer signature so they can sell him on for a fee ASAP… They also looking to offer Keita a deal probably for the same reasoning…
Origi will always be a goal scoring folklore hero to many at Anfield though
What’s that? Italians being cheap skate artists again? Who would’ve thought.
Origi should use this opportunity to learn a thing or two from Giroud, drop to a Wolfsburg/Eintracht type of level and then work his way up for another chance. If he wants it enough.
This is how you know we’re now fully into narrative territory rather than dispassioned analysis. Right now the narrative is he misses too many chances to be effective and there is concern that it’s affecting his confidence the point of not taking on shots when they come.
Their evidence
-
he has the same xG as Mo, but Mo’s stats arent a concern because he never looks as rushed or wasteful in front of goal as Nunez does - did they see the Villa game? Did they miss Mo more or less falling over while on a 1-1 breakaway with the keeper?
-
There were occasions against Villa where he should have shot but didn’t. Like the time he created a goal for Mo )(against City). Also, lets ignore the outrageous attempt out of the air he took early, rather than bringing it down and looking for a square pass.
He is a player who is not clinical, but his overall contribution is still solid. You can either judge a player for who he is, warts and all, or only for the things he isn’t. If you’re the latter you;re only going to look at the missed chances, but that will mask all the positive stuff he does to help us win matches that Klopp clearly values. Both Mo and Mane have been described in similar ways before in terms of missing too many chances, but for whatever reason we rarely edged towards this sort of narrative of it being a defining characteristic with them. Is the reason for that disparity because the missed chances are more numerous with Darwin…in combination with too few conversion…in combination with the concern about his mental state with the red card? Or is it because the Halaand vs Darwin narrative was something so many bad journos pressured to produce voluminous content were already set on when the season started and the flip side of the former’s goals is Darwin’s misses?
Darwin’s awesome.
