True, only one of them is getting credit it for that though.
It won’t show up in the stats but even Nunez’ missed chances are leading to goals, whether it’s from corners like Villa or the second OG last night. He’s creating situations with his pace and movement that even Salah and Mane wouldn’t quite be able to.
I think this is a key point. Bobby has 7 league goals and 3 assists in 13 games so far (which feels like it is one of his better returns against that from previous seasons?) compared to Nunez’s 5 and 2 in 12.
It is also noticeable that in the first half of the league this season Salah 's goal numbers appear to have dropped off to an almost Mane like level (7 goals) too which is also probably playing its own role both in the midfield issues and media attention on Nunez.
For me the most encouraging thing is how well he responded to the red card. He missed a raft of chances in that game and wound himself up. We don’t know for sure but its difficult to view them as not related. Since he’s come back he has continued to miss more than his fair share of chances but has just kept his head down and kept going over and over without dropping any intensity and hasnt shown a glimmer of that frustration again. Far more Dirk than Suarez (in the ways you’d want).
His pace and movement gets him into great goalscoring positions regularly. Just needs to stay calm on the finish. Sadly it might come too late for us this season.
with the caveat that i agree hes great and all that… but you know in your heart of hearts…his finishing just has to be improved if we want to win shiny pots
Yep. Last night he had 3 opportunities. 1 cleared off the line, 1 which he took well closely ruled for offside by VAR and 1 which he hit the corner flag with…all 3 came from great movement so the signs are still very bright. I’d be much more worried if we had a Benteke on our hands where he was never in the box, never making runs and just stood with his hands on his hips looking like a twat.
True but Salah is also missing a load of chances, Darwin is on 15, Salah 12… Salah should be doing much better… Another player who got the kings ransom contract and really isn’t worth half that value currently (amongst many others btw).
The problem with Darwin isn’t him missing chances btw, it’s the fact since he joined the line up our front line doesn’t press… The start of all our problems. A huge area for improvement and needed fast.
Just pointing out context really, Nunez is new and young… As a team we are disfunctional all over with the seniors letting the side down, which for me is the bigger issue.
Is he terrible? No way. It’s not even close to a Carroll or Balotelli situation. He does offer things, many things and seems to be giving 100%. He wouldn’t be on the pitch if it was that bad.
However, does that mean he’s very good because of what he’s offering? Nah, not for me, not yet.
I’m not going to pretend he’s better than he is just to remove the “fear of flop” in the air (I don’t have it, I’m very much 50-50 about him being a success or not with us).
And this “chances missed” stat is crap to be honest, it’s not totally accurate. Honestly, I wouldn’t attack him so much around some of those chances. But it’s the number of it now and it’s easy to say. Of course, that doesn’t mean he’s missing some in a terrible way.
Head down, learn, work on things, relax a little bit, don’t go into every footballing situation on the pitch like an absolute maniac.
