Darwin NUNEZ: 2022/23

I think the most impressive bit of running came in a sequence that didnt even result in a shot, but also sums up some of the teething issues. I dont remember exactly how it came about, but it was the first half and the ball found his feet towards the left touch line 15 to 20 yards inside our half. There was a ton of space in behind to run into, but a Brentford defender pretty well positions to block him running into it. Darwin though saw he didnt have great passing options and so just blew into that open space before the Brentford player could react. A couple of touches later we were on the edge of their box with Brentfod tracking back desperately. He then played a shit pass behind the supporting Ox and the move broke down and then with us working hard to get up in support of the attack were badly positioned to deal with Brentfordā€™s subsequent counter break.

His pace and ability to find space for him to run into is devastating. He just needs to compose himself when he then gets into those positions.

I think heā€™ll figure it out. I think heā€™ll end up scoring loads of goals for us. When Thierry Henry came to the premier league, I thought he was one of the worst players I had ever seen the first 6 months. Had his socks over his knees, couldnā€™t finish or seemingly kick the ball straightā€¦then it clicked. You can see it all with Nunez. I think heā€™ll come good. I hope we have the patience required. When he scores 1, I think heā€™ll score 10 quickly.

Henry is a good and positive marker, but only because I saw his early much criticized performances differently. The fact he was replacing Anelka and he started slowly in terms of goals means his first season was viewed very critically despite ending with a very respectable goal scoring record. But even during those early periods where the criticism was most intense, while he still learning and adapting, there were repeated moments of true class. It was clear for those who watched rather than just participated in the pile on that he was a huge talent going through a transition. It wasnt a guarantee of success, but it was an indicator that he had the talent to figure it out.

He is then used as an example of the importance of patience with players who dont start out well. Often that is used too broadly, even for players who just look shit all over. Nunez is far more in the Henry mould where he has shown ample reason to be positive, may still end up with a reasonable goal return despite the criticisms and will almost certainly (with the right support) continue to get better and better and grow into a monster player.

He already scored 5 and then he stopped ā€¦ That is what he does, he scores and then he stops for a while ā€¦ :see_no_evil:

I agree with you, I think he has the ā€˜Henry packageā€™, and could go on to be great.

Yeah, the social media are absolutely destroying him, as expectedā€¦ Itā€™s been a while since the last time we were the laughing stock of European football. Hopefully the team use it as fuel to shut the mouths of these jokers.

Him and van Dijk too and over here is no exception.

You might not know this but van Dijk is hated by the far right in the Netherlands since he spoke his mind about racism in football and other fields.

They are having a field day on Social Media, Klopp might have said that he was taking off because of a muscle problem but that is not true. The wimp and that is putting mildly is no good anymore or better he never was ā€¦

I said this yesterday, but anyone who canā€™t see that the lad is fucking electric needs to stop watching football immediately and do something else with their time.

Well, that turned quickly.

Better to totally ignore that stuff.

Twitter sentences of random people, comment sectionsā€¦

Literally nothing useful to see there.

No this is going on for about 2 or 3 years, he and Wijnaldum. They could not say too much about hem because he play well but lately he dropped of, that is all they needed.

They commented on our coverage about how Van Basten particularly had been very critical of him over their world cup exit and it was the first Iā€™d heard of the way he was being targeted in the Netherlands. People are shit.

My hot take is that NĆŗƱez will score more league goals next season than SuĆ”rez did in his second full season.

I think Nunez will score more goals this season than MO willā€¦
You read it here first

And Iā€™m sticking with my original prediction in August that heā€™ll outscore Haaland this seasonā€¦

I have a ā€œneighbourā€ in Belgrade, sheā€™s originally from Serbia but sheā€™s been married to a Dutchman for about thirty years and lives there, and she absolutely adores Van Dijk like heā€™s her son - because of his good looks (obviously :joy: ) and overall demeanour and opinions. Her Dutch family often speak about their pride because he plays for them. If far right is against him, then I think they are even more right about him (pun intended).

People love it when certain people fail - when it comes to football specifically, Iā€™d say that average fans are more likely to make fun of expensive signings than people who are general cunts - belittling or abusing women, disrespecting fans, being oblivious to racism or being downright racist etc. No matter how good you are, God help you if you hit a poor run of formā€¦

But the average football fan doesnā€™t (want to) understand this! Who cares that Nunez tracks back to cover the left back and stop a dangerous counter-attack, or that he creates sitters for his teammates, heā€™s paid to score goals and thatā€™s all that should be to his game. That said, Iā€™m a bit worried that his self-confidence has taken a massive hit and will only get worse with each missed sitter.

I hope that Klopp can turn his mind into a fortress like he did with many players before him. Iā€™m genuinely happy that Nunez is a Liverpool player, even though Iā€™m worried about his prospects in the short term. That said, same goes for every young player in our squad - talent is undoubtedly there but there is no cohesion and clear gameplan in the side at the moment.

I feel sorry for Darwin.

Look at the state of the team he joined.

Diogo and Diaz came in to a team in form an we had options to rotate the attackers (or even bring in a fourth attacker if needed) and they clicked right away because there was lesser pressure on them.

Since Darwin joined we have problems throughout the squad and especially in attack heā€˜s alone with Salah most of the time and defenders can mark them easy.

I am very hopeful that things will change from next week when Bobby and Cody are available.

Iā€™ll feel sorry for us, score that easy chance he had and we would have been 0-1 up within 15 minutes.

Would have been a total different match ā€¦

My gut feeling is that Nunez will become someone like ManƩ. He will score many goals but will be known as the living, breathing firecracker tormenting the opposition.
