Darwin NUNEZ: 2024/25

He came on and did a lovely bit of hold up play, then skill to take it away from 3 players and get fouled. You’re thinking just do more of that. Then he morphed into his braindead chicken act. I don’t think he’s ever gonna lose that so he just can’t be trusted.

Also produced the header for the penalty

That was Alexis.

Bit difficult that sat on bench when it happened.

Darwin was on the pitch. Just wasn’t his header.

I do apologise he came on after first goal.

I’m really worried that this team has to rely on him, Trent and Robertson to win the title. I’ve long given up on him but I now wish he was the player that I gave up on - instead, he has plumbed new depths since. I hope Danns can smell blood and do everything he can to stake a claim for first team spot because Nunez is, how to put it, finished.

Yeah…he’s a fighter for the team…he can attack…but also helps out in defence…he’ll fight for the ball and hassle players till he wins the ball…like everyone else…I just wish he’d put the ball in the net…cmon Dar…hit it…

Apparently we are open to offers in the region of 50 - 60 mil. As that’s from Football Insider, it has to be taken with more than a pinch of salt but if true then it’s time for Danns to step up when the opportunity presents.

Liverpool are open to accepting an offer of £50-60m for their 25-year-old Uruguay striker Darwin Nunez. (Football Insider)

Not the first time he did it either.

But hey, captain chaos or whatever.

We really see the fruits of that, chaos more for his team than the opponent.

I think for most people the price tag isn’t even the main factor anymore (it’s such that most probably don’t want to be reminded of it anyway), they just want to see better stuff from him. Which isn’t happening and it’s quality related, simple.

I don’t even think he has a big ego or that he sees himself as a player who’s quality is aligned with the fee paid for him. Sometimes when we take him off (and even when the crowd is chanting his name), it seems to me by the look on his face that he’s well aware this is just not working.

There is no hiding sometimes. No myths, conspiracies, but, ifs, maybes or whatever. It’s there and everyone can see it, including himself.

He may not be the most intelligent, but I don’t even see him as a moaner when he doesn’t start, things don’t work for him during games or when we take him off.

We will wish him good luck and happiness elsewhere. He’s not the first and won’t be the last big transfer that won’t work here.

So it’s all good, but it will soon be time to move onto another one.

Most damning verdict is that I thought Hojlund was better as he tried to compete for everything against Ibou and Virg, never shirked any challenges, although Hojlund was on longer.

Can we please get a gif of him knocking over De Ligt, it was hilarious

And I’m open to offers from Margot Robbie to do unspeakable things with me.

Odds of that happening are about the same as us getting £50m for Darwin.

It was the action of an idiot , at the height of his powers.

Nothing funny about it. So fucking stupid and the final nail in the coffin for me

On current form it wouldn’t surprise me if he did nothing.

And yet elsewhere in the game…he acted as peacemaker when it became heated…so who do we have…Jekyl or Hyde…a combination of both might help…

It’s these little things that make me think he’s very much one of those players who won’t really shine until they’re in their late twenties.

There’s just so much that he needs to sort out. The biggest issue right now is his mentality. Forget everything else said about intelligence and so on, if you transplanted Salah’s mentality into him you’d get a much-improved player immediately. Salah gets frustrated, but he genuinely doesn’t stop believing. With Núñez you can see that he stops believing and then all the silly little things start happening.

You’re right, the price tag is (more or less) irrelevant, especially with the inflated price tags of this day and age. That said, it still makes him our record signing, and when that amount of money is spent then you’re expecting - justifiably - a player that would not just need a minimal bedding-in time, but be able to hit the ground at full pelt. He’s not just been miles from that, but utter light years from it.

In terms of his ego/complaining, I think he has one (all strikers do, it’s part of the game) but confidence is another thing, and his is completely gone. Not just in his game at the moment, but in terms of his career at Liverpool. Was watching the highlights (high is doing a lot of heavy lifting there!) of the match, and his yellow card against De Ligt seemed very much a premeditated thing. As someone else pointed out, all he had to do was survive the 30 minute cameo without doing anything stupid, and his four yellow cards were wiped out - a fact I am SURE was relayed to him before coming on - but it took him mere moments to pick up another yellow guaranteeing him a suspension. I dunno if I’d go so far as to suggest getting a suspension was intentional, but he’s certainly not giving anyone the idea that he’s a striker who’s hungry to be in the side, and raring to grab his chance.

His excuses are gone at this point as far as I’m concerned. If there was truth the rumour that Milan were willing to take him for £40m, I’d be biting their hands off.
