Agreed. Happy to see him sent on his way in the summer with a (now deserved) PL winner’s medal (and hopefully more besides).
Or we could just hope he keeps scoring on his way to that medal.
Ffs - give him his night. He was brilliant today.
We can get negative about him again in a game or two if he starts squandering more handfuls of chances.
He wasn’t brilliant thats just an overreacting to the result. He scored twice which is good but the first you would expect all Premier league strikers to score that, the second a bit more work it wasn’t a worldie. If you add if the header which was no where near the shot he blazed over. He wasn’t shite but similarly he wasn’t brilliant he did what you would expect him to do.
The world according to Trump!
We looked much more threatening with Nunez on the pitch. He did lots of good things as well as the two crucial goals.
We always do.
The problem is that his proverbial bark has been worse than his bite, this season at least.
Let’s hope that his goals today give him that essential confidence.
I actually thought the longer he was on the less dangerous we were looking… right up until we looked super fucking dangerous indeed.
Did you see Arne’s expression when he put that challenge in on Collins lol
Yeah I thought he was off there
Probably should have been for a 2nd yellow
For a club whose motto is You’ll Never Walk Alone some “fans” sure allow our players like Darwin to walk alone. The amount of abuse directed towards him from our own supporters is mind boggling. He gives his all for this club every time he steps on to the pitch. That alone is enough for me to support him. Would I like more goals? Absolutely! But it isn’t like he is Ballotelli just strolling about the pitch.
Darwin is a confidence player and when he receives a slagging off online it is going to affect him. Just a little rant
It’s not abuse (by and large). There is just a recognition from many (most?) that it hasn’t been working out. Very happy for him today, even beyond the 3 points - as I said he can really feel like he has earnt his winners medal now (if it’s forthcoming). Game winning goals is what it’s all about as a striker so I’m happy for him in particular (vs say had Mo and/or Cody got them) and he can hold his head up in training etc but that doesn’t change the fact that I don’t think he’s done enough to be in our plans for next season.
To be fair, I wonder if @Icedagger is referring to the larger group of internet “fans” more so than TAN, which is usually just toxic regardless of players anyway.
Maybe on social media and some forums, but he’s had brilliant support from fans in the stadium. Also here on TAN I haven’t seen any abuse. Just people who want him to do well but questioning if he is good/consistent enough for us to keep
A little lost with this, if it is people pointing out that it isn’t/hasn’t been working or that he isn’t clinical enough then that is fair criticism.
However, we all have said that you can’t fault his effort, but for a top club effort on its own isn’t enough.
I have been critical, but when he scored I was sat at home at 5:30 am shouting Nunez Nunez.
We ALL want him to suceed, because it benefits our club!!!
I liked how he scored his second goal. He took a touch, which moved him past the last defender, steadied himself and launched it past the keeper. Other times, he would have just taken it first-time and probably have his shot blocked or badly mishit it. Standard stuff for any decent striker but with his excitement off the charts, mere minutes after scoring a huge goal, he showed composure and calmness which has been one of his biggest issues.
He’s had a couple of false dawns already, and this is probably another one, but if he could finally start producing, it would turn an already potent and dangerous unit to a lethal one.
Has he actually shown anything like that before is what I’m wondering. If not, then it could hopefully be a sign that he is indeed improving, taking that next step.
Otherwise, at the very least, I hope that having that monkey off his back will give him a lift mentally and at least bring him back to the levels of performance he had before, if not better.
As @Hoosierred suggests, give him a break for five minutes.
I was losing faith in him to be honest, and yesterday doesn’t turn corners in many minds.
But…
Liverpool needed something different and he provided it.
His teammates looked so happy, delighted for him. The supporters in the stadium were delighted for him. My neighbours knew how delighted I was for him…
He might well be gone in the summer, who knows…maybe “Arnie” whoever he is has a better idea.
We all still hope
