Darwin NUNEZ: 2024/25

We were so predictable that I wished for him to come on and do something unpredictable! I really liked how Trent actually took responsibility in those final stages, asking for the ball constantly, trying to create from everywhere. Nunez finished well. Good for the team and for him, we all needed that.

See, I said he was reliably unreliable. Pretty sure nobody expected him to score 2, couldn’t be relied on to do what we expected. Brilliant

From the Guardian:

" NĂșñez doubled his league goal tally for the season. He resembled, as ever, and at all moments, a footballer being chased around the pitch by a swarm of invisible bees."

It is very much a wider scope than TAN.

It is absolutely fair to point out what needs improving. It isn’t fair or right to go to his insta and make threats and tell him what a donkey he is. And it wasn’t directed at TAN but rather the wider online presence. This was a good spot to vent my frustrations.

What I noticed is that Nunez is our only forward who presses correctly. He naturally presses the opposition goal keeper to block the easy out. This puts soo much more pressure on particularly if the others cut off the passing lanes correctly.
Also he doesn’t jump into tackles like many of our team do so doesn’t get bypassed like a muppet.
He’s a lot more useful than many are making out. A real 9 who doesn’t score unless we really need it.

I think Darwin is a footy equivalent of basketball’s ‘hot hand’. Scoring the first reinvigorated his confidence, composure and calmness flowed from that. I had commented after his first couple of touches that he was trying to impress every time he touched that ball (I think it was when he lofted that long shot, off-balance and against his direction of momentum). Taking that touch to create space for the shot on the second just came naturally to him.

We just need to hope he can stay in that mindset. In that sense, I think Slot actually faces a big question. If he goes back to riding the pine and watching, the opportunity is gone. But does Slot trust him enough to bring him on at 60’ next match, or start him?

We play Lille next, a match that is almost pretty much a nothing game, so I guess starting him is not that big a risk?

Given the enigma that is Darwin, I can see him becoming the top scorer and firing us to the quad

Oh, I think that Jota’s frail body has rendered this dilemma moot.

Yes, he might well have a major opportunity right now.

Obviously those on insta aren’t fans they are trolls from other clubs or better described as scum

Ehh it has perhaps not been abusive, but it’s been harsh in TAN too. I don’t think we should give ourselves a pass. Sugarcoating is unseemly.

He has had a lot of criticism, stuff that crossed over. I was more disappointed in his attitude recently. I can love a player who is down on his luck but when that starts to show in his attitude I get wary.

I hope yesterday brings his confidence back and we don’t see his head drop again. After all even when he was missing I said he was getting into positions. He hasn’t recently.

As for social media see the post from the bluetick above, it’s mostly people who haven’t a clue.

With Jota out yet again (sighs in despair), we’ll need this lad in top form in the coming weeks.

This run of five games is not a bad cluster to perhaps make a virtue out of necessity, Bournemouth is probably the biggest challenge (maybe PSV) all the way to the derby.

Keep calm and trust in Nunez.

Haven’t clicked the link, but is this clickbait nonsense the level that TIA has fallen to?
