Darwin NUNEZ: 2024/25

I might be wrong, but hasn’t that side of the operations always been like that? I remember it being a joke when TAN was still part of TIA…

EDIT: To be fair they are rather decent at keeping track of loan players.

Romano:

REVEALED: Al Nassr were VERY CLOSE to signing Darwin Núñez during the January window! The financial agreement between Núñez, Al Nassr and Liverpool was not far… as negotiations were advanced. Doors were open for a potential transfer on player side but Liverpool ended up rejecting the final official bid. It was not a financial issue as package was matching Darwin’s potential price tag, just ‘technical decision’. Liverpool decided not to sell a key player in January, also not being able to find replacement in short time. Reds management didn’t want to overpay in January… for strikers not even included in summer ‘25 shortlist. The club also didn’t want to change anything for Arne Slot as Liverpool are doing excellent, despite good bid the negotiations then collapsed with the Saudi side. Al Nassr are very happy with Jhon Durán… but Saudi clubs remain keen on Darwin for the summer.

Romano saying stuff which is totally un- provable so it seems like he knows things so all the sheep who hang on his every word still think hes in the know.

He hardly added anything yesterday. Disappointing. Didn’t hold the ball up, didn’t help stop their attacking flow. Thought he’d kick on from the Brentford match but it was an exception sadly.

There was one instance that had me screaming at him ; Wolves on the attack with nearly all of their players pouring forward , there’s a turnover on the edge of our box which falls to Darwin , one simple six yard pass and we’re away through the middle … and he passes it straight back to a player in yellow. Beyond infuriating !

Where do you get the energy for that?
I’m so knackered just watching us in the second halves these days I haven’t the energy left to utter a word let alone scream.

Anyway if I have anything to say about our second half performances it’s this. If we are defending a lead I feel VVD becomes too relaxed and complacent and doesn’t lead the team. It’s the situation where he needs to step up and make sure everyone is marking up, picking up runners and on their toes. Get stuck in if need be VVD looks switched off.

That was the point in the game where my wife told me to stop shouting at the TV infront of the kids

I believe my exact yell was “DARWIN WHY ARE SO BAD AT FOOTBALL?!”

The collective wankathon after the Brentford match is over.

Remember how damn good he looked against us for Benfica? I would not have recognized the two as the same player. That sort of performance against Wolves yesterday would have been just what was needed to relieve pressure.

I want to offer a different perspective. Most of our team were crap for most of the second half. The pressing was off, the passing was atrocious, and a bit of a sense of panic seemed to be setting in. Wolves were very much in the ascendency in the second half. Darwin Nunez was feeding off scraps.

In all likelihood I think he will be sold in summer, especially if we get a fee in the ballpark we heard about from the Saudis in January. I think Slot would prefer to reinvest in another player. For that matter, Nunez might not be the only forward who is shipped out, and that’s before we see how the Salah contract situation is resolved.

But I want to be fair. I saw Nunez drop into midfield, get the ball, spray it out wide to Salah, and Salah get crowded out by not having the pace or power to wriggle free and get the ball back to the middle as Nunez advanced. That was the one thing I thought Nunez did.

Not a lot, granted, but the overall story of the time he was on the pitch is that most of the rest of them were crap, and he didn’t even have scraps to feed off.

I know you are trying to balance out but his hold up play was and is terrible for a big lump he can’t play with his back to goal.

But this is where we needed him. Yes we weren’t great so when the ball got to him he had to hold it up to give the midfield and defence a break, but didnt. He gave the ball to them twice and set them on a counter attack. He just looked uninterested and unusually for him didnt put in a shift. Maybe he was unwell?

He just isnt good enough which is a shame as he seems a likeable bloke but we need better in the summer.

You mean, he’s worse than Andy Carroll then?

Ah his Brentford honey moon is over then. Don’t worry Darwin, Diaz won’t do much against someone and you’ll score a late winner again.

It’s almost like clockwork right now. One of the forwards will drop out of form, another will be rotated in and compensate for that.

Except Salah. That ineffable force of nature just keeps ticking on.

I think it’s why it’s important especially in our set up to have at least 5.

It works both ways whether it’s him or Salah who’s not included, I guess…

Oh ok 5 and a half.

I personally love him but it’s hard to suggest we have 6. You could add him to Elliott.
