Darwin NUNEZ: 2024/25

I think someone else said he was trying to flick it on but got his timing wrong?

The opposite of Kane?

That’s what I thought at 1st but looking at a couple of replays it’s as though he pulled away

How did he missed the keeper from that distance, every time

Because he was aiming at him?:grimacing:

MOTD pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Never stops working, good movement, gets into good positions but finishing is just too erratic and he should be scoring more than he is.

Can’t see us moving him on this summer given all the other upheaval we’ll likely see but summer after that will be decision time on a new contract and I wouldn’t be giving him one based on current performances.

I mean, I doubt he would be seeing many other offers, so it’s not as though it wouldn’t be worth seeing what we can offer him. I think he adds a lot to the team, it’s just a matter of extracting that consistency from him, which I actually think he’s done better at this season thus far.

His recent performances have been really good. He wasn’t getting chances to score but he was heavily contributing in every other area. Against Villa, he got the chances as well. Granted, he still looked shaky when it came to actually taking them, but he did get a goal.

Overall, his performances of late have been encouraging and I’ll be surprised if the club doesn’t offer him a new deal.

I think ā€œreally goodā€ is a stretch.

I’d go as far as to say he’s been okay but well below what you’d expect, both for someone with his talent and physical gifts and, for someone who’ll cost us Ā£70-Ā£80m.

There’s just too many chances going begging that he should be scoring. And the fact we’re not seeing any real improvement in that area after two years is a bit concerning. I love his effort and endeavour but the composure or temperament to be a top striker just isn’t there.

I guess time will tell, but I think similar has been said before about Suarez and ManĆ©. Not saying he will be as incredible as Suarez, but I think he’s already producing for the team.

This is a weird thing to say when he scored a one-on-one only last night.

Also missed one that probably would have put the game to bed in the first half.

And a header in the 6 yard box that definitely would have finished it off early in the second.

I don’t think it’s a hot-take to say the bloke isn’t exactly clinical in front of goal.

Okay, but I judge players on the goals they do score.

He scored a goal that helped us win. I don’t really care about the ones he missed because he did score.

I just don’t get that kind of mentality. Nunez could put away every chance and have 50 a season, or he could do what he currently does—score vital goals and contribute positively in most games—and that works fine for me.

If he actively costs us games, that’s another question, but he isn’t.

Someone hit the nail on the head above in saying when he’s put through it’s more of a surprise if he scores than misses. Just not good enough for Ā£70m. That said he’s a great character and fights for the team. Fans and team mates seem to love him. Got it all apart from finish

I suppose that’s the glass half full mindset and probably a better perspective to take.

Can’t help but want a bit more in terms of tangible output though because it’s not like he’s not getting into those positions to do so.

Insert your own jokes about getting into the box and hitting the target…

The club hierarchy seem to disagree. I’m not saying he is/will be good enough or not, but just from how much he plays, I don’t think they are as negative on him as many fans are.
