Darwin Nunez (CF/LW) to Al Hilal/Atletico/Napoli

Conte pressing Napoli to sign Nunez because his ego wants to prove he’s better than Klopp, or can get more from Nunez than him…

What?

But they still don’t want to actually pay for him.

Sky now reporting the same, wage of 100k/week post tax.

Fee equates to about 47.5m in pounds

I think every striker on the market has significant questions about them, but the market tends to be more negative regarding someone who viewed as having failed at their current club compared to someone about whom the questions are just whether they can kick on at a bigger club. So I know some had expectations of a much bigger fee, but I think we have to accept taking a bit of a bath on his fee and what is being reported seems about in the right place.

Agree. Was hoping/expecting something closer to 55m but really if we get the cash in and negotiate well on the replacement (Ekitike?) then it’ll come out well.

I’m amazed anyone would pay that much for him.

He’s still got a rep internationally due to his exploits for Uruguay mainly I think.

As bad a fit as he is for us, the right league and the right team system and he could be good. So while I might have liked more, happy it’s done and we can move on to getting a striker that will work for us.

This exactly. He will be much more efficient in a better fitting system/club. It just hasn’t worked here and never will apparently.

Its nothing to do with systems. He just never had the composure he was getting chances but not converting enough.

I think his lack of intelligent hold up play was more concerning in terms of his long term fit.

My take also.

The early Nunez we got seemed to be quite a player bar his finishing. He however lost that and his finishing didn’t improve.

All the right tools, none of the right brains. Enjoy watching him as he is pure entertainment, but it’s a coin flip as to whether or not whatever he’s trying to do will actually come off, and we’re not at a level where the patience exists for someone to fail regularly before succeeding.

There was one assist he got that summed him up for me, as far as his time here. He was through 1-on-1, fluffed his chance, keeper passed out to a defender, Nunez closed him down and slide tackled from behind, won the ball, and then passed for someone else to score. The easy was beyond him, the absurd a piece of piss for him. A luxury in a title winning team, but not someone you can rely on. All encapsulated in small passage of play.

I don’t have a lot of the annoyance that many do with him as he can’t help being an instinct player in a team good enough to create consistent chances. He can still have a good career and I don’t at all begrudge him the opportunity. In 2010 he’d have been an absolute star here as his style of play would’ve suited us to a T. Instead he’s a man out of time in a team too clinical and efficient to put up with his mercurial impact. A reasonable bet to make, a shame it didn’t come off.

He looked even short of the entertaining factor at the end before Slot didn’t even bother with him he looked so poor.

He needs a fresh start and 50m is a decent return for a player who won’t ever make it at Liverpool.
