Ding Dong.....the US Politics Thread (Part 1)

If the cutoff for an automatic recount in Georgia is 5k, and if Biden gets more than 5k lead, are Georgia still obliged to do it now because they said they would earlier?

I think the Georgia Senate results force a recount.

That was why I didnt understand why they called it.

Why are they even bothering to continue the first count if they’re going to do a recount? Just start again.

Someone here on my tv just said, when Trump has left the WH he will sooner or later get a big offer to make a populistic TV late night show or something like that. That would be exactly “his thing”. Just to stay in the spotlight and to spread his dangerous nonsense.

Imagine that, what a horrible idea, I mean, no no no, I don’t want to think about it.

Because then it wouldn’t be a recount, would it!

They don’t recount all the ballots I believe, they cross tab and check totals I believe.

Right now there seems to be an assumption that the first count is closely in favour of Biden. Close enough to justify a recount. OK, just crack on with counting the votes again and if it again comes down in favour of Biden that’s that. Not sure there’s much point in continuing this count first other than to see how closely the full count figures match up. When you’ve already committed to a recount, who cares whether they match perfectly or not, does the recount produce the same outcome is all that matters.

It really is insurance…

I assume Arizona will drop another load of ballots today and that may finish off winning that for Trump if so Nevada gets called probably. PA might get called tonight as well.

As crazy as it sounds, the machines they use to count the paper ballots don’t have perfect count-recount accuracy. There are some irregularities that may be indicated if back to back counts are too far apart and so I think they need to finish this count to get a baseline to know if the recount indicates a rerecount is needed.

I understand that Donald Trump has requested that “impartial and unbiased” N Korea send their election officials to oversee the recounts

That is what may happen and what many intelligent people think is his plan. Many have made that forecast long ago. Thom Nichols is of the opinion that it was his original plan, to leech on stupid far right voters, but he ended up surprising himself with winning (he said this in 2016). That is just a thesis though and speculative. But very many thought that. Very many think that it is exactly what is going to happen now since he is a cult hero.
The dream we have that he has to face consequences for his corruption may never come to pass. We’ll see. Some say he will soon be having economic problems, but it is kind of hard to filter if it is wishful thinking or actually what is going to happen. Anyway time will tell.

Only the good die young though. All the evil seems to live forever. I am not very hopeful that he is actually going to be convicted of anything at all, or suddenly lose his money…

He seems to have been taken down a notch. Maybe lack of cocaine tonight, I don’t know. But his confidence seems gone.

I have a feeling that none of the states are going to get called in the next few days. This impasse is going to last for a week at least.
