Im in the camp that calling it will change nothing. Biden is already beginning his transition planning and it being called will not alter what they are doing. Trump’s whining will go on even after it is called, with the same hollow accusations being thrown. The people who are receptive to those will respond the same way. The people, even those in his government, who will act on them will still act on them.
So, as you say, just be utterly impeachable in your process and get it right. At this point there is no benefit in calling it today rather than tomorrow or monday or the week after. This is expeciallyu true given biden is currently in the lead in point totals.

Now the hard work begins. He has a shitty hand poor Biden. And the GOP has seen that a corrupt authoritarian who race baits works splendidly, just slightly less crazy and they will come back with someone more sinister. The future looks quite bleak on one hand, but on the other, there is a chance that an internal war inside the GOP may damage them. But Trumpism worked.
So this is a time to breathe out in relief temporarily, but to defeat a future GOP challenger, the Dems must be much more united than they are today, and the GOP must likely damage themselves in civil war.
Who put him over the line? Wherever it is I’m not ever visiting.
