What a moving, conciliatory and healing speech by President elect Biden.
America is back!
But why 70 Million Americans voted for him. I just can’t believe it. ![]()
Be quiet and don’t ask difficult questions
Now that it is over and Biden won, rightly so, he has maintained that it is UNITED STATES. And despite 70 million voting for Trump, you have to remember that this is America, home to these 70 mil Americans too. And if Biden remains true to his word, he will do good to understand why these 70 mil Americans voted the way they do. Granted there are hardcore Republicans who will vote anything and everything Republicans, I believe there are plenty of neutrals who actually see the Republicans addressing certain parts of their concerns that the Democrats do not and if the President is seriously concerned about the country, then he has to address concerns on both spectrum of the country and not just the agenda of the Democrats. Onwards to a better USA and hopefully, a better world everywhere.
Sheesh…
Glad I went to bed before the silliness started…
Focus!!! Game day!!!
We all are actually talking as if Biden is second coming of Jesus. He is not.
I am not going to get fooled by the speech. Even Obama (one of the best talker ever) was not able to do much. He was chained by Senate and media(fox) to an unbelievable extent.
What Biden & his team brings to the table is yet to be seen. To me this is just the first step. There is a long way to go - a long difficult path. I am waiting to see what happens now.
This is heartening…sounds like he isn’t going to waste time…lots of environmental action mooted, too.
The WaPo is paywalled, but you get 5 free articles a month, I think.
At the very least, Americans will wake up today knowing there will soon be some adults in charge. Pity a shitload of energy needs to be devoted to undoing and rolling back the damage of the previous toddler occupant.
If you see my previous posts, I think Biden is just the other side of the same coin as Trump. I don’t think he is better, just different, in good or bad, only time can tell. But more importantly, he has been elected in a vote. That must be respected and unlike what they did during Trump’s reign, instead of trying to block everything based on partisan views, I only hope Biden can do what he preach, to unite the country.
Kamala Harris gets a four-year presidential apprenticeship and is ready to really start the process of turning things round.
Hopefully by 2032 neither of the two preceding presidents will be relevant figures.
This is what is disturbing. 70 million Americans still think Trump is the right guy to lead their country.
This transition period concerns me, two months is a long time in politics. Trump’s administration is dead in the water and yet there’s now going to be this ‘hyatis’, preventing America moving forward. It just seems a complete waste of valuable time to me.
Not necessarily true. Just like many voted Biden because its either him or Trump, and they think at least part of Biden’s manifestoes appeal to them, similarly many would have voted not for Trump but for policies that might have addressed their concerns that the Democrats did not. That is why the challenge is for Biden to find that balance in policies and what really concerns these voters and unite the country or at least most of it. Right now its a mess.
Trump is arrogant, dishonest, disrespectful, opportunist. A sharlatan whose run for office was nothing more than about ego and power. Most Europeans find it difficult to fathom why anyone would ever vote for him. Even at this point today I struggle to get my head around it. With Covid, race relations, international relations, the mexican wall, environmental policiy, trade wars, mass unemployment, Russian links, the positives of his presidency are limited, the negatives abundant. Coupled with his personality it should not of even been a close. But he got 70m votes and that was no fluke.
I struggle with notion that two sides of the same coin. Trump embodies the worst kind of politics. Disinformation, divide and deride. Biden a traditional career politician. I would say him and McCain are two sides of same coin. But not Trump. For me polar opposites.
Biden brings respect and decency to role, a degree of normality. Makes the US a dependable ally again for many countries. During a pandemic a boring sensible leader is what is needed.
Mass reform isn’t needed. He does not need to be revolutionary to be successful. Simple common sense and decency will go a long way to healing and repairing the damage done.
I imagine it went something like this:
Random 18 year old teenage employee: Four Seasons good morning, how can we landscape you today?
Trump moron: Hi, yes. We’d like to hire out your most exclusive conference suite for a our ultra important news conference that will shake the world.
Teenage Employee: Sorry, what?
Trump Moron: Listen buddy, this is for Trump, man. Don’t make me send the Secret Service.
Teenager: You say it’s for Donald Trump? Okay, I have our newest venue for you; minimilist furnishings with natural lighting to allow you to create your very own ambience. $499 999/hr or part thereof. Very exclusive and totally worth it. I’ll text you my, I mean our, OUR banking details now.
Trump Moron: Excellent. Done.
Trump Moron to Trump: We’ve booked the Four Seasons your gloriousness.
Exactly, it is a 2 month impasse and Trump isn’t going to leave the Whitehouse willingly.
In the UK, the losing PM usually moves out right away. It is a shame, they can’t do that in the US.
