Of all the detestable things he has done, his complete disregard for the environment and ripping kids from their parents at the border stand out for me.
Those simply cannot be explained away (not that much of the other stuff can…)

I would argue it was ever thus.
It’s just that the tools required to do so are sorely lacking in far too many people…
But that isn’t for lack of trying which appears to be the accusation here.
What are you saying?

I guess the problem is information is more available now and through even more sources. You then get people feeding on the overload and confusion.
Yes, I was very aware of the possible parallels as I was typing that out! There are differences, of course, but that’s been done to death!
I was pretty sure that you were.
I’m not convinced it is done to death. We’ve just had an example where one person voted for Trump off the back of it. Farage is still forging a career chasing unfortunate people in the channel without an ounce of sympathy. It wont stop, not while there’s political mileage to be milked from it.
And they can continue in that rhetoric and continue to push away those who have sincere concerns and not those truly assholes and America will just continue to be divided.
I just think its not helping by continuing along divisive lines. It feels great to lambast them but what good does that achieve. And I will continue to defend my friend because I know her, you don’t.
With that I will not contribute anymore to this thread. Said all I wanted. The election is over and the common objective we have is an united USA and hopefully an united world.
A former commissioner and Trumpist (Dean Browning) created a fake twitter account pretending to be a gay black trump supporter, and was using it to comment on his posts from his own account and generally spout bullshit.
Got caught out though didn’t he, and dug himself deeper into his hole and ending up banned on twitter;
Edit - worth checking twitter out for some of the comments!
Yes, you’re right - the topic of immigration will probably always be ripe for political exploitation. The done to death line was alluding to the argument of open borders (free movement), that has been discussed at length by many of us on TIA with regard to Brexit.
yeah I think we’ve killed it but it’s like some zombie that just keeps rearing it’s ugly head and will do so while we discuss stuff outside of football. Even football touches on it.

I had lunch on my mind actually
At 11??
You must be the boss…
Biden is a candidate who tries to reach out to the other side. He has done it throughout his career. That’s why he gets criticism from the Democrats’ left wing, for whom he is too conservative.
Point is, the one who truly disrupts and polarises the country is Trump, not Biden. Anyone thinking the contrary is mislead imo. Creating misunderstanding and mistrust within the population is Trumps’s daily bread and butter, the core of his political program, and a lot of republicans have bought into that.
Of course, that doesn’t mean that many Trump voters aren’t nice people. But many nice Brasilians voted for Bolsonaro recently, and a lot of nice people voted repeatedly for Putin, Erdogan, Netanyahu and other despicable authoritarians.
If a mod Godwins a thread did it really happen??
I am a pawn. The dog has higher status than I do.
Thinking of and being allowed lunch are two very different things. I am however allowed to wash my loin cloth on a Saturday.
There is some merit to that, except that when one party makes cruelty a central pillar of their argument you have to accept ownership of that when you support it. There is not that much practical difference between someone who actively supports a policy of cruelty vs someone who is willing to look the other way because they feel it benefits them.
There is also the reality that her view of the parties and what they stand for is based in fantasy. To take this view on the parties you have to have started with an unreasonably positive/accepting view of Trump and what he stands for to buy his bullshit that Dems are for open borders making his policy better.
But I’d also point out that it’s not uncommon for immigrants, even (especially?) those form latin america, to have not been swayed by the issue of Trump’s immigration policy. Those who came here “the right way” are often the harshest to and about those who “don’t”, often ignoring the difference in legal routes that existed for the respective groups. Immigrants of one group demonizing those of another is a fairly standard part of the immigrant experience in this country, which is a fairly decent illustration of how challenging the experience can be.
The number of social media posts from my friends smugly telling people to turn off the news and get out of their bubble in response to objections about Trump’s post-election antics is illustrative. On two occasions I pointed out the irony that the only way someone can take the position that we cannot call the election because of concerns about the legitimacy of the process is by having cocooned yourself in a right wing media bubble, but they seemingly all think they are just independent thinkers who just happen to have stumbled upon the same baseless idea that is only peddled in one part of the media landscape.
Point taken. There are unfortunately enough contemporary examples, so I’ve edited the post.
Sorry!
I didn’t mean anything…just me being a smart arse as usual.
Godwin away…I think it is perfectly reasonable given how unreasonable he is acting.
