Exposed by Sean Hannity, Americans live in a corrupt nepotistic Idiocracy. So dumb it is just mind blowing.
Anyway, good night everyone, let’s wish for better news tomorrow and a brighter day for everyone.
I’m not so sure that this will go away…
I think it looks increasingly like Trump and the Republicans are going to steal the electoral college votes - the vile senator Lindsey Graham has promoted the idea that Republican state legislatures will appoint electors who would cast votes for Trump, even though Biden won those states’ popular votes. The Florida governor has also urged people in battleground states to push their Republican legislatures to override popular-vote results by referring to Article II of the Constitution, which provides that a state “shall appoint” its electors “in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct".
I think with the Pompeo statement and the legal incompetency re challenging the counting of votes, the real aim is to just continue the ‘stolen election’ noise rather than overturn the counting and then essentially the republicans are planning a coup to override the electors choice and select their electoral college voters. Unfortunately I don’t know if the Democrats are prepared to do what it takes - which is essentially fighting fire with fire - to counter this.
I’m now fearful of lots of (understandably angry) protestors leading to far right and police incited violence followed by a Trump inauguration in January.
This article sets out what the Democrats would have to do to stop this - it looks like a tall order…
And if you don’t believe me, here is Jeannie suk Gerson’s take (Constitutional law professor at Harvard):
Precis:
- states have the power to determine that fraud affected the vote count and choose Presidential electors who do not reflect that supposedly faulty result
- States with Republican legislatures could, theoretically, override a popular vote in favor of Biden include Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
- If several states’ electors were to diverge from the popular vote, in theory, on December 14th, the Electoral College vote could result in a win for Trump, and, on January 6th, the newly seated Congress tabulating the electoral votes could declare Trump reëlected.
I have an American friend who managed to escape to USA, the ‘proper way’ according to her, a number of years ago from a South American country still deep in political turmoil. She voted for Trump. Both in 2016 and 2020. I asked her why. Because to me, her background should have made it easy for her to resent what Trump did. However, she told me, that it is her deep belief, that even if she still has parents stuck in her motherland and her siblings dispersed and she is trying to get them over, she believes that a country needs to manage immigration in a legal way or else there would be more chaos. She does not believe that people should be banned into the country but it should be done through legal and proper way, whether through refugee program and what not.
Now it would be easy for anyone who does not know her to brand her as a bad person because ‘how can a good person with any sense of conscience vote for Trump’. But she is as kind a person I know, very hospitable and humble, works hard for her living. But she admits that even if Trump is not likeable as a person, because of her beliefs in how a country should be run, she does not believe the other party has policies that address her concerns better than what the Rep policies do. So in her own words, she is not voting for Trump, she votes for the party whose policies align with some of her major concerns. Its not that she wants people to be killed, its not that she wants people to suffer, she has her concerns and she thinks Rep provides the solution better even if she does not agree with every single thing they do.
And that is what I think represents alot of the voters. I do not think the majority of the Americans who voted for Trump are bad people. There are assholes and evil people on both sides of the camp, but I seriously think majority just have concerns that they think each party can address better, not necessarily agreeing with every single thing. And while it feels great to label the opposing voters with names, I think the only way forward is to understand the real issues these voters have and address them with policies that work for majority of American, not just how the Democrats or Republicans see the world.
She sounds like a dickhead.
Who? My friend?
Trump is the sort of person who shuts down legal routes for refugees, and then exploits those who are 'illegal- his recruitment practices at Mar de Lago a case in point.
That is why even though my friend, she does not like Trump, she still voted for him because the policies addressed the concerns she had while she felt the other party was adopting a free for all attitude. But that is not the point I am making, the point I feel is that right now that Biden won, firstly people need to understand that we cannot believe that there are 70mil Americans out there who wants to kill Black people at will, who wants to shut America from all foreigners, who wants the world to die of global warming etc. But a majority of these 70 mil americans must have had some concerns that Democrats were not able to address and work towards an America that is for ALL or at least MOST americans rather than the divided one as what it is now.
Saw an interesting stat the other day:
73% of Republicans feel Trump has had the election stolen. It reminded me of another stat from the Atlantic article I posted earlier in week.
72% of registered Republicans believed that Obama was an illegitimate president, believing he was born outside of the US.
I bet if you drew a Venn diagram you would struggle to see any difference between the populations.
It tells you everything you need to know. It’s not about what the Democrats do or don’t do. There is a lack of critical thought, considerable reinforcement bias, and politicians and media outlets all too happy to exploit.
Who ever runs in opposition to the Republicans would have got smeared. The shit will stick, and 70% of Republicans will believe. Irrespective of truth or evidence. It’s s disinformation war, one sadly which show just how suceptable large proportions of population are.
Sounds like she’s fallen for the narrative that the Democrats would just allow an open border. Interesting too that she would describe management of immigration by the Democrats as being potentially “illegal”.
But perception is reality, isn’t it? I think my point is this person that I know is not a bad person. I am sure there are assholes out there who don’t deserve our time. But if Biden wants to get anywhere to repairing the damage done, he has to find a way to reach out to these people who are not nasty people but somehow felt that the Democrats are not putting out policies that address their concern. Do not take it in a way that I am trying to waterdown what Trump has done but reality is reality, the earlier Biden and supporters realize that and stop labelling the opposite supporters, and start uniting with sound policies, I think the better for them, the better for the world.
This video is very toxic.
Err…Biden’s selection was largely to reach out to republican/ swing voters. He is continuing in that vane. This isn’t a case where Democrats are not wanting to unite - but where they themselves are being vilified.
Good people can do bad things. Unfortunately bad actions can end up defining them. Its people like your friend who ultimately contribute to the republicans thinking they can get away with any old shit with those 70% of voters and it is these people who may provide the bedrock upon which they are emboldened to steal power and act in an ever more fascist manner.
So yes they may have been good people in the past but following their action of voting for Trump they cannot in good conscious think what they have done is okay and remain good people.
I think the point here is that Biden’s natural appeasement style (he has been friendly with McConnell, FFS) is not going to play out well for him here, nor will it for the democrats nor America.
George Monbiot sums it up well here:
Hmmm where have I heard that argument before?
They are disturbing numbers.
What is more disturbing is that you can extend those figures to many people / nations world wide.
Everything you see and read now has to be questioned.
