Frankly, I’m terribly terrified. This guy is a lunatic, he’s surrounded by some fanatics, and he’s supported by some maniacs. Things can go terribly wrong.

You’re right. I have this large chunk of my personality that likes the piss taken from people like Trump in this situation (a big fall basically). But he is a nut job and will do anything to keep the seat or burn the house down. I found those stories of him questioning possibilities in Iran quite disturbing to be honest.
meanwhile daily Covid cases in the US sail past the 150k per day average mark. I don’t really have words for Trump.

Absolute clown show in Wayne County (Michigan). Republicans blocked certification, then unblocked yesterday. Then, after the deadline for certification, Republican members of the Board of Canvassers (responsible for the certification) announced they wished to rescind their votes - after the certification has been accepted by the State.
The most charitable interpretation is that they are all ambitious wankers who want to stay onside with the Trumpistas, and know full well there is no process to deal with their attempt to rescind the certification after it has been sent to Lansing.

Further to the debate as to why so many people voted for Trump; the only person I know who voted for him is my brother-in-law. He’s an entrepreneur of Indian descent who lives in Florida. His reasoning was the economy, which clearly makes no logical sense, and a fear of the far left, which is even more fanciful. He’s an intelligent guy, a man of science, who really should know better, but still he was convinced by some pretty weak arguments to vote for a guy who has done so much damage to the US and, indeed, the world. I find it baffling.

I had a hilarious conversation with someone the other week. We were chatting about needing to stockpile non-perishable food for the withdrawal in January. How shit it is, and can you actually believe this is happening in 2020. But knowing she voted to leave, I gently suggested that leaving the EU might not have been, on reflection, the best idea. On the contrary, she still wouldn’t even entertain the idea. It was right, the EU was a corrupt autocracy we were better out of, and she’d vote the same way again.
It’s jaw-dropping. In 2020 we’re actually stockpiling non-perishable food. And people still won’t admit that maybe this was a bad idea. Or even that it wasn’t the right time.
I think it is no surprise that issues, like Trump, Brexit have happened post 2010 in a world where people use social media as their primary news source. People’s attitude to Covid and Climate Change are still being framed by what they already believe being reinforced and amplified by sociopathic Facebook and Twitter algorithms.
Watch ‘The Social Dilemma’. All of a sudden Trump makes complete sense, and people who support him are, more often than not, victims of this insidious technology who need our help and understanding, rather than our enemies we should despise.

Well done for raising this issue in here. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE should watch this movie in order to understand what happens a bit everywhere, but especially in the US. They are the most advanced real-time lab for this shite.

It would be I agree, in fact all of them. While I’m certainly not a fan of the Royal family the fact that she’s been in a prime position for so long to see all of the various PM’s come and go it would be gold to really hear here fly on the wall opinions of them.
