Ding Dong.....the US Politics Thread (Part 1)

I also have an idea.

My idea is I would like to take a massive Hannity on Geraldo’s stupid moustache.

Unfortunately, I think that is exactly what is likely with climate change. The UN processes always set timelines that last at least 5 years. The US has not honoured a single 5-year commitment in the entire history of the process since the Rio convention. It is actually somewhat pointless at this stage to listen to what the US has to say in these international negotiations, because it just makes reaching agreements with countries that are willing to commit in good faith more difficult. It becomes impossible to ascertain which ones are actually willing to do so.

What is troubling is that for the rest of NATO, NATO was always a little different, or so we thought.

Now I know why conservatives are always angry people, the lies they tell themselves all the time.

(I wonder if Dioufgates is a conservative at heart?)

Not if you think a bit deeper about it.
The truth does hurt and makes me angry much of the time.

Just another empty quote that has no meaning or so many meanings that it’s meaningless.
Just more drivel to get that ‘silent’ majority going!

Not sure where to put this, but …

Our former owner is looking to buy into Newsmax, the crazy conspiracy pro-Trump network.

For nearly two years, allies of President Trump have been exploring ways to build up a formidable competitor to Fox News. One target they recently zeroed in on: the fledgling pro-Trump cable channel Newsmax TV.
Hicks Equity Partners, a private-equity firm with ties to a co-chair of the Republican National Committee, has held talks in recent months about acquiring and investing in Newsmax, according to people familiar with the matter, part of a larger effort that could also include a streaming-video service.

Why am I not surprised Tom Hicks wants to help fund this.

I suspect it is more just old timey speculation at this point rather than an attempt to further the ideology.

One of the scenarios of the Trump goes into media plays is simply that he attaches himself to an existing outlet who then rebrand as Trump TV. Assuming that is Newsmax or OAN then their valuation is likely sky rocket as people leave Fox News in droves. If you dont care about the damage your investment causes to society, getting in now on one of these second tier right wing/conspiracy networks is a likely to see a good short term return.

Well lets hope he bankrupts that as well. He’s probably got a similar business acumen to the orange fuckwit.

Supreme Court yesterday determined that there are exemptions for religious gatherings to a recent COVID restriction imposed in NY. It’s an absurd and dangerous ruling, but made all the more newsworthy that they have already heard 2 such cases this year upholding the ability of state’s public health agencies to impose such restrictions on public gatherings without religious exemptions.

This is a declaration that it is open season on overturning court precedent on issues involving “religious liberty.”

That will now serve as precedent in the face of a future vicious epidemic. Ebola rampaging through Brooklyn Heights, but don’t restrict religious services.

It is like a constitutional social lobotomy.

Hmm, so viruses don’t spread at religious events??? They must be very religious themselves.

I would have had more respect for the decision if they just flatly said that nothing can get in the way of them practicing their religion. However, the decision was also couched in nonsense statements that there is no evidence that these sorts of gatherings pose any increased threat for transmission.

Heaven forbid that public health be subject to the precautionary principle. Innocent until proven guilty…a nation of children.

@HometownZero @Limiescouse my sympathies. I know what sort of shit you guys are into. Because we experiencing the same. Take care.

If a person normally goes to church and there’s a pandemic on, presumably many would choose to stay away anyway, even if the ruling gave permission to attend? I’ve heard that many places have online services and so on. And then in attendance, for those who chose to go for a sense of community, belonging, mental health or whatever, would mask wearing and social distancing be practiced? If so it might not be as bad as imagined.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like the ruling, but we shouldn’t assume the worst. And playing devil’s advocate for a second, think about all the reds who gathered when we won the title. I was cringing (if that’s the right word) but I understood the desire to do so.
