Friend of mine in the internet security profession is getting a briefing today on the Solarwinds debacle, but the initial information provided to him has already made it clear that the situation is much worse than the press understands.
Staggering how little public reaction there is from the Executive branch, at least at the top.

I had wondered why I was seeing a quote from Biden yesterday about prioritising Internet Security. I only heard about the hackings last night listening to an online amateur news show. It is really difficult to see Trump and his followers caring much about it. They probably hope it will be an issue that impedes the next government.

The people who head the agencies who would ordinarily be heading the response to this are not just partisan hacks whose focus is on using their position to advance Trump’s interests, but even if they wanted to lead a response they are woefully unqualified.

They got backdoors and can wipe out 18 000 US companies on a whim., though the hacking of these were always collateral (can still be used to damage wider US economy despite not being defense related) Nothing the US can do, yet anyway, to stop it. They have no idea where those backdoors are as far as I understand.
It will be interesting to see how Biden handles Russia. He got to stand up to them while avoiding escalation, which is tricky.

Good read for sure. Thanks for posting it, @Magnus. Didn’t love the two paragraphs around Wordsworth though. I’d rather see our government take action to help people in need rather than preach. That tone bothered me and I can see how it raises concerns around an elite class defining the “good”.
But maybe I’m not reading it the way it was intended.
