Gas isn’t a bad solution. I’m just stressing that lethal forces (not the movie) were also needed/used in that particular situation.

It was. But as I said, they had suicide vests, the gravity of the situation is not comparable. It takes only a second to detonate one of those, and many terrorists were actually knocked out before they could detonate their vests.
Look, I am no military commander. But it is a coarse of action you can take if you want to minimise casualties (if they have KO gas available, they may not have that) and not kill everyone when you assault a complex. It minimises risk for the assault team.
