Yeah, guys just happened to have some 10’ sections of 4x4 fence post stock with them.
About 8 years too late, but better late than never I suppose.
Today did, however, prevent the certification of the election, which taken to the endpoint would involving usurp power.
We don’t actually have a good word for this, because it doesn’t happen in democracies.
That does not amount to a coup, and by all formal accounts the senate has pressed on to certify the election. I am dumbfounded, especially from yourself, at the amount of people seeking to sensationalise this tragicomedy.
Yes, they need the Cabinet, the principal 15 - although there are so many Actings I am not even sure how many are needed.
My honest take is that I am not sure that what happened today was not a coup attempt, nor am I sure that it was. At the point where the SoD turned down the Mayor’s call for the National Guard, I thought it was. Now, I am not so sure what the hell I saw. At this stage, it would appear to be a form of pageantry - perhaps designed to force something akin to the 1876 compromise to strike an electoral commission.
As for sensationalizing, it rather does that for itself.
Twitter announces barn door has been locked, horse will not be allowed back in for 12 hours.
I am sure some criminal offences were committed, but sedition was not one of them. Likely criminal trespass, possession of firearms in a public place, incitement to riot, but without a declaration of power taking, the coup argument falls to the wayside. Trump will however be in deep deep deepest shit for this; I would not be surprised in this crazy world, the actors in this being so caricatured, that the Cabal arranged for it for Biden. Time will show us. Things are not ever what they seem anymore.
Sedition is a slam dunk.
If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or by force to seize, take, or possess any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall each be fined or imprisoned not more than 20 years, or both.
Bold mine, but high school civics classes used to be taught that disrupting Congressional proceedings by force was sedition by definition.
Lawmakers are reportedly unsettled. In fact some of the GOP may now not even object. How do they think victims of mass shootings feel?
They don’t have much of a repertoire; just gallows and crosses as far as I’ve seen. Maybe they’ll branch out into something more ambitious/adventurous in a day or two, once they’ve built up their confidence.
If we start to see any ballistae or onagers then perhaps somebody might need to call somebody.
Mike Pence making his 2024 kick-off speech about defending the constitution. Now let’s get back to work and file objections to the election.
Perhaps they will scrutinize those right-wing uprisings they have facilitated in places like Bolivia a little differently next time. Bolivian legislators had very similar happen to them, except help never came, and they had clothing ripped from their bodies, dye and paint thrown on them, and mobs cut their hair off.
@Arminius I wish I had an iota of your knowledge.
We all do
An example:
Senate is back in session.
Meanwhile a visibly shaken cowardly Lankford repudiates today’s acts and then calls for transparency in the election. They know exactly what they’re doing or rather undoing.
I just heard Rubio calling for investigations into the election because people have lost confidence. He could benefit from a little jail time too.
