Ding Dong.....the US Politics Thread (Part 1)

Didn’t take long to find one of these in the replies…

And then there’s Tweets in this vein replying to those like the above…

Seriously, just burn the fucking joint down and start again…

Trump’s statement is code apparently, he just says ‘transition’ not ‘transition to the Biden presidency’ etc…

And all he references is the end of his first term, and so on…

Just love it when people make bold proclamations while hiding behind anonymity.

I’m just a visitor when in America, just a guy from England. I don’t know a huge amount about the history nor the politics nor the policing and law / order. But even Jnr will tell you (after seeing and talking to armed police outside Disneyland) that you don’t get on the wrong side of them. Break into Capitol Hill and get shot, now who’d have thought it. Of course back home there would be suspensions and enquiries and calls for prosecution. Over there, the shooter was just doing their very very obviously expected and defined job.

Don’t forget the photo of a Confederate flag carrying “protester”.

Thank fuck it’s gone through. I know it always was going to, but it’s still a sigh of relief.

Thoughts should now turn from confirming Joe Biden, to ensuring this megalomaniacal fuckwit feels the full weight of the nations fury.

Thought Mitt Romney’s comments were very good. There is nothing that can be done to convince those rioters that Trump lost and it wasn’t even close in the end. All that can be done is that they are told the truth.

Well every cloud has a silver lining - Trump and trumpism are effectively fucked forever. File alongside North Korea, no wonder he was the only Statesman to reach Kim Jong Un.

I have a sense of humour though.

Frankly what you just wrote here is plain lies - you were claiming a coup had been staged for about an hour, and when I tried to calm you from that you insulted me, a few times.

Whatever, the world is not logical.

For Trump, maybe. There will however be a very smart and ambitious person out there somewhere looking at this and realising that there are millions upon millions of people that can be manipulated easily enough into effectively being brainwashed. Trump may have had his time but the effects of what he has done are not over imho. The movement that he has spawned has a good chance of being taken over by competent, aggressive and intelligent people and that is a major, major long term concern.

Perhaps, but we’ll have to see what the US State does in terms of charges and responses. That could go a long way to stamping it out. For Trumpism to continue it could live on in the hearts and minds of some. Next US election will be an absolute ball.

@Barnestormer I would jump to @Magnus defence here. I think it’s a cultural thing. What we saw last night amounted to a coup to him given the social and political environment of Norway. Just as I found it considerably amusing since we are used to even more violent confrontations on regular basis.

I’d have absolutely no problem describing this as and attempted coup. That’s exactly what it was. It was a premeditated assault on the government, with the aim of using violence to overthrow the legitimate president elect, and replace him with the one who lost. In every sense of the word, it’s a coup.

The current president even incited it, and, as it looks likely, refused (personally or by proxy) requests for reinforcement.

Just because it was shit, doesn’t mean it isn’t an attempted coup. Everton are still a football team.
