Ding Dong.....the US Politics Thread (Part 1)

Well you would be wrong because there was no attempt to take or declare a seat of power; its more a debacle analogous to the occupy movement. We’ll have to wait and see what the charges the US Justice department raise. I would check the definition of coup if I were you.

A coup was actually notionally impossible because how could Trump supporters usurp Trump, who was technically in power at the time of the protest

There’s a lot of CCTV and television footage of the rioting, violence and damage caused. I hope there will be an investigation by the FBI to bring the criminals, including Trump, to justice. They cannot let this go and need to come down hard on these extremists, to deter anything like this happening again.

I’m glad that we have people arguing about semantics. That’s the real issue here.

For anyone who doesn’t know, it is not a hammer and sickle, it’s a symbol of “The Outsider” from the Dishonoured video game franchise.

Look at the Date, what happened yesterday was planned and is no coincidence.

Maybe Trump will pardon them all as his last act.

A coup or coup d’état is the removal of an existing government from power, usually through violent means. Typically, it is an illegal, unconstitutional seizure of power by a political faction, the military, or a dictator. Wikipedia

I’m happy that my opinion fits that definition thanks. This was a plain an attempted coup as you will ever see.

The difficulty is the quirks of US politics whereby the defeated incumbent gets to stay on for two months. So why Trump is technically the legal president, his coup is an attempt to violently overturn an election result, and unseat a democratically elected president before he’s had chance to be seated.

Pfffttt…

He got it COMPLETELY wrong.

They stormed the Capitol before the win was certified.

I am looking forward to go back to the usa to shop in the outlets.

Ok.

CNN have just been discussing that. Apparently, Trump can grant amnesty to the rioters, today if he decides to and doesn’t even need to know their names. He can even grant amnesty to himself, before he leaves office.

We’re they technically storming it though? It’s very important that we something something.

No surprise there, they were probably told that before the riot started.
Imagine behaving like arseholes safe in the knowledge they would get off scot-free.

And the charcoal’s red glare, possums crackling in air,
Gave proof through the night that Trump’s nuts were still there.
Oh, say does that blue-mangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the insane and the home of the naive?

Good morning. As a new day dawns, stock futures are up and Trump’s Twitter remains down.

Fucking hell, those weirdos over the pond never do anything without making a show out of it…

Anyway, glad that Biden’s victory has now been confirmed. That ridiculous shit-show was probably the last attempt to prevent it. From now on, we’ll see Trump still hacking on ‘it’s all a fraud’ in the media, while preparing his post-potus life, ie. destroying all remaining evidence of his ill-doings while in charge.

Then he’ll go into ‘retirement’ while being protected by Biden and his crew, just like the infamous GWB (a much, much worse and more malicious president than Trump in my book) was protected by Obama back in 2008.

Wonder what Trumps handicap is looking like today :golf:

Attacking the political / governmental HQ with 10,000 armed men with tanks and air support with a view to taking power is a coup. What they did was vandalise and terrorise in an act of sedition and or insurrection.
