Were the Supreme Court to face hundreds of death penalty appeals from this episode, I think it might truly force the US judicial system to actually look at how the death penalty is operating. It is ALWAYS the foot soldiers, or often enough, their little brothers too. As a matter of routine, people with possibly no criminal intent at all are facing capital punishment. They just happen not to be white, let alone have rooms at the Grand Hyatt.

If they weren’t white we’d all be talking in terms that they’ve been radicalised and that it’s essential that we bring those doing the radicalisation to justice. If only we knew where to find them…
