Very good post. Social media is fantastic but also incredibly dangerous if you are unable to filter sources and recognice spin when it is there and disinformation. A big problem in our day and age. Most, or at least disappointingly many, even pretty intelligent people, seem to have problems with this unfortunately. The tendency to not listen to experts but to fabulists is strong in many people. Conspiracy theories that experts can easily debunk if asked (or read) is rife.
I have no idea at all how to “fix” this though. But government maybe needs to have certain guidelines and rules, but at the same time, we don’t want censorship. So a very difficult and challenging question I think.

What I think you’ll find is you get more knee-jerk radicalism the farther you get away from the mud and the smell of cordite. The front line troop can generally distinguish bullshit from banana pudding.

Yeah, and the USAF doesn’t get out much these days. Everything from 25k feet, flying from US bases. Nowhere near as many rotate through foreign bases as a generation ago, where the Navy still gets out to see the world and work with allies.
But Colorado Democrats notwithstanding, I don’t think it is much of an accident that the one service academy that is not on the coasts appears to be the most radicalized.

I have read about a lot of discipline problem in the Strategic Forces (STRATCOM). Hopefully it is a bit better now. Maybe because it is a boring service.
