For all the bluster on both sides, he’s not going to be convicted. The vote to continue the impeachment is a pretty good indication of the final vote.
Perhaps even less so. To vote to continue the impeachment is a constitutional/procedural question and not one that denotes guilt. For those Republicans who voted in favour they can easily claim objectivity, such that now if (when) they vote against finding Trump guilty they can claim they did so impartially. I’m surprised more Republicans didn’t adopt this approach yesterday but it doesn’t bode well for getting anything more than a simple majority when it comes to determining his guilt.
Yes, it would take some kind of unexpected bombshell to change the situation. The question then is, where does the Republican Party go now? They are completely hitched to the Trumpist bandwagon which means having him, or his designated successor as candidate next time. The Democrats are perfectly capable of self destruction, but surely the US electorate won’t vote him in again, will they?
I think this will depend on 2 things 1, whether Biden can keep stringing 5 words together over his term and 2 if Trump can find a social media platform that would allow him to post nonsense every 2 minutes.
I feel Biden has to restrict his ‘speaches’ to the minimal ‘facts’ which i feel he finds hard as he likes explaining. He needs to focus and let someone else explain the reasoning. So often he starts talking and 5 words in changes tact and to some extent context, his message has to be clear. Problm is he’s an old dog and learning new tricks isn’t evident.
I’ve sent him an invite to TAN.
I’m pretty sure he’s already on Bluefume and Redcafe
He’s that Karen ghoul on the Moon.
Guaranteed.
Pretty chilling stuff in that video. Republican senators know that the Vice President and many of their colleagues were in mortal danger. They know that if Trump had accepted the election result those rioters would not have been there. How do they sleep at night?
I was reading some social media stuff last night on of all things Disneys Mandalorian and this stuff has even leaked into that facet of society.
Pretty clear that the issues that plague the US and people’s blind faith towards the Republicans and tainting of the Democrats is still pretty rife over there. Many still deny the obvious issues of racism, anti Semitism, inequality, and whatever else you want to throw in the pot ever existed with Trump.
Wasn’t it suppose to be funded by the Mexicans
Infiltrates or infiltrators?
Ok, so the Republicans are now officially the party of the braying mob of maga qanon nutters. That’s the take away.
Trump’s defence based on the usual deflection and obfuscation tactics we might have expected. The Democrats have made some mistakes- the ‘fight’ argument was always weak, all politicians talk about fighting and battling their opponents. Trump’s supporters were clearly incited by his refusal to accept the result of the election, and this is not the same as Democratic objections to Russian interference. Trump told his supporters that the election was illegal, was fraudulent and had been stolen. This justified an armed uprising in their minds. His inaction during the siege, and his total lack of empathy afterwards, just underline his attitude. A lot more will come out about how much the police were involved and what exactly took place in the coming years. Surely there has to be an inquiry into an event of this magnitude.
