It is easy to cast aspersions at America from the outside, but there are some very real survival-level concerns that many people have, that other countries with a better safety net don’t really experience.
I’m as gutted as anyone that Trumpism hasn’t been repudiated as forcefully as I had hoped, but a more nuanced look, which you have given, is warranted.
Even then, it looks like Biden is going to get this done, which is quite incredible, given he will defeat a sitting President who is using all the dirty tricks at his disposal to stop it.
Honestly, I think it is worse than that. Not that we needed an election to tell us this, but significant amount don’t think it needs to be managed because it isn’t actually a problem. But that needs to be extrapolated out, because it isn’t isolated to covid, but is merely an example of the alternative facts world view of a substantial portion of the electorate.
Ezra Klein is now making the point that is possibly the most important factor in how the next few days/weeks go - how will Fox respond to the suggestions of the illegitimacy of the predicated and now apparent Blue Shift?
I never thought the USA would vote in a president in my life time more disgusting and dispicable than Ronald fucking Reagan. The best I can say for him is perhaps he was a necessary ill (for the USA). Trump is the unneccessary ill and they seem to have wantantly wanted it.
The fact that it appears so difficult for a boring centralist conservative to beat this fucking nightmare is a disgrace.
Squeaky Bum time, I think even if Biden wins this, He’s gonna be in the senate where the republicans can control him. That and Trump having a conservative SCOTUS. The repubs have the chance to wash themselves off of trump now. He’s delivered what they wanted and is probably expendable
Hot take of the day: I never cease to be confused by the left in America being blue and the right being red, the complete opposite of how it is in the UK.
It’s like Walkers vs every other brand of crisps. Blue for cheese and onion?!
