Ding Dong.....the US Politics Thread (Part 1)

This is really going to fuel the conspiracy theorists’ fire…

yes, bit not sure it should - Arizona was thought to have already been won by Biden. The additional votes, means that we now wont know until they are counted. Why would the Democrats add more votes to a state they had already got?

Wisconsin has already declared in Biden’s favour. It’s Michigan we are waiting for (and Georgia, PA, NC and confirmation of Nevada and Arizona)

Texas hasnt gone for a Democract in the presidential since Carter (so stayed GOP even in the massive national swing of 2008). They also have not voted a Democrat into national office in the time I have lived in this country, and the politics of the place was quite different in the 80s and early 90s. However, it is the prototype of a modern American state - large Democratic base in the large cities and Republican everywhere else. A lot of the hope for a swing here has been due to the ever growing size of the cities. I think they now have 4 of the largest cities in the country in terms of population, all of which are increasingly turning Dem, even the historically GOP stronghold of Dallas. Harris County, the home of Houston, now has more residents than the entire 6 election college having state of Nevada next door.

Yes, I know - but any slight discrepancy or anomaly is just what the conspiracy theorist ordered.

Maybe I’m being unfair but it seems like the counting has slowed down a lot - I was expecting to see a lot more tangible progress throughout the day. Have most of the counters fucked off home or something?

Acording to 538 - Maricopa County, where the largest remainder of uncounted ballots are, has finished tabulating all its in-person Election Day votes and should give an update around 9pm local time.

Well at least he brought it down to my level.

I am probably late, just seeing what I see on my timeline. I think Michigan votes are still going in Biden’s favour…just, but it is very close.

First takes on the demographics are interesting. Growing suspicion that Biden took voters from Trump, but the increased turnout may have benefited Trump at least as much in some key states. He appears to have simply found a lot of voters who were not registered to either party, many of them first-time voters. Apathetic young voters who would not normally vote may have come out significantly for Trump - the candidate who isn’t going to lock their state down.

He is up 30k with about 100k votes left - mostly coming from democrat leaning areas

Woman at work upon me telling her that Biden has, seemingly, won Wisconsin…

“… I don’t want to join the Army, and I don’t want to wake up in a prison camp that’s all I’ll say.”

No matter Biden’s win this time around there is still a thick smog of misinformation and conspiracy theories that will dog our elections for the rest of time.

It’s the Joe Rogan vote.

Donald Trump doesn’t understand how counting works.

He is right and that is why Trump is still creating incalculable damage even in defeat:
