Ding Dong.....the US Politics Thread (Part 1)

Apologies, I thought it had been called. It hasnt - but it is expected to go to Biden as the remaining votes are likely to contain enough votes to keep Joe in front. Apparently there are less than 1000 votes left to be counted (possibly just 300)

Yeah but that is hardly a nostradamus type prediction. Most of 538s projections had more or less this result.

Most people are aware that Trump has telegraphed his strategy to take a presumed overnight lead, declare victory and then try to delegitimize any Blue Shift that subsequently occurs. As transparent as the move is, they also understand the power of narrative, and the longer he is in the lead the easier it is to frame any change in the situation as the result being overturned rather than just the result of the original count. The more this is framed as something to be overturned, the more cover the courts have to make decisions to stop that. The GOP, nationwide, but particularly state actors in key states, have gone to lengths to enact procedures that are designed to slow the count for the sole purpose of enabling this strategy.

Maybe he could foresee this but then again, we’ve all seen Basic Instinct.

No, not that bit. I’m talking about the actual plot.

I guess Georgia is still getable but Pennsylvania and Carolina seems lost :frowning:

There were known issues with the USPS slow rolling delivery, not just the story that had been building since 2 months ago, but reports of them leaving ballots in sorting locations on election day. They were court ordered to resolve that and they declined. Like they were offered a cup of fucking tea, rather than being ordered by a federal judge to stop federally supported voter suppression in key states.

This should be a massive scandal with criminal investigations.

Probably not going to happen though. Might not even be headline news.

Just out of interest, is that your interpretation or is there actual data on this?

A remarkably good quote for this shit show.

As a side note, I wonder in what decade the US will manage to count votes as a normal western state with functioning infrastructure and bureaucracy. It will probably not be in the next one.

Neither - precise returns are not available yet. A guy I used to know in grad school, now at Davidson, is looking at exit polling . He is trying to build a model to use GIS to match census data, registrations and voter returns when they are available

Right. The only exit polling I saw mainly had Trump gaining in most groups except for white men, where they said he has lost support

What is this, Somalia while there is fighting in the streets of Mogadishu ?
What does this even mean ? How can you be so unprepared for an election that happens every 4th year. I don’t get it.

Latest from Nevada (my one to watch)

Nevada’s secretary of state has just announced that no more vote tallies will be released until Thursday morning. He said the decision was made to ease pressure on counties to ensure they have time to tabulate their votes accurately.

In northern Nevada, Washoe County is running a livestream of vote counting, so citizens can see how the sausage is made for themselves.

Biden is currently leading in the state by less than 8,000 votes and with about 85% of the vote counted.

In a phone call with reporters earlier today, top Trump aide Jason Miller said that Nevada is a state “rife with corruption”, though offering no evidence.

The White House has expressed frustration over the Democratic-led state’s decision to send mail-in ballots to all registered voters.

Relatively few exit polls present age groups particularly well, unfortunately, but a lot will actually have those age responses.
