It’s an interesting cultural phenomenon. My son goes to a youth group at a church, along with playing footy and so on. He has a great time there. Anyway, the youth leader is very much a Second Amendment guy, loves his guns, goes hunting and to the shooting range and so on and so forth.
Absolutely not my world, but that’s what I see here, with everyday people I interact with.
Now, here’s the other thing… he is a straight up guy who would do anything for anyone in the community.
Not sure what I’m saying, because on a forum it’s easy to label the whole lot of them as loons, but bumping up against it in real life, while it’s not my thing, it seems normal enough to them, and they are otherwise responsible, lucid people.

Sometimes reminds me a bit of the speed limit debate here in Germany. Seemingly normal people think it’s their god given right to drive like absolute maniacs on the Autobahn and freedom dies if it ever should end.

There were four major shootings yesterday I think; Highland Park, Orlando, Philadelphia and one in California.

It’s been confirmed there was no actual shooting at the Orlando event, it was just people responding to noises as if there was an active shooter, and as that rippled through the crowd (typically in excess of 10,000) people just responded collectively. Some people are responding dismissively now as if the reports of no actual gunfire being present as “no harm was caused”, but look at these scenes…

People responding like this to a false alarm is QED evidence of the harm already having been done. It is now the most believable thing in the world that your normal activity is being affected by an active shooter incident and this mass hysteria was actually the perfectly rational response.

- A 49 year old white individual in Kentucky shot and killed 3 police officers - suspect apprehended
- A young white man shot and killed 7 individuals in Chicago - suspect apprehended
- A black man, may or may not have shot at police, was shot and killed while running away unarmed
I think the person in the 3rd incident above was just unlucky…

He was lucky it was only 60 as they actually shot around 90 times. Silver linings and all that.
I think @Limiescouse mentioned this someway back - it is really quite a conceited and devious line the GOP and their mouthpiece are taking in baiting the Dems about protests against the Supreme Court Justices. Is there ever going to be hope of finding a way forward?
