He was also charged with fraud in Brazil , skipped the country before trial , and just flat out denies it all.
You have to admire his chutzpah.
Well, you would if he were Jewish.
And , to absolutely no-one’s surprise , it turns out that our hero is also a Russian shill.
Lots of reporting now that “behind the scenes” lots of party insiders were concerned about Santos and his dubious background prior to the election. I am so sick of them saying things behind the scenes things they refuse to say on the record, and the reporters they say it to still treat their on the record statements as unimpeachable and worthy of being presented without skepticism.
I will never understand the deference paid to US politicians and apparatchiks by the press over there. I honestly can’t think of a single one who is worth his salt when asked to hold these fuckers to account.
A little fishy that the press didn’t suss this out earlier. Could have kept quiet to poor on the embarrassment now.
He is without question a Russian intelligence asset. The only real question remaining is whether or not he knows that.
This is a great piece on the breakdown of the normal pathway of information from being uncovered by local reporting and working its way through the different levels of coverage until it becomes a nationwide story.

For those who cannot get around the paywall, the TLDR is that these issues were in fact identified by a small, conservative-friendly, paper covering his district. They ran a couple of pieces identifying the dubiousness of his record and ultimately “reluctantly” endorsed his Democratic opponent. Some of the statements from that endorsement are withering…
Blockquote
“This newspaper would like to endorse a Republican,” it wrote, but Santos “is so bizarre, unprincipled and sketchy that we cannot. … He boasts like an insecure child — but he’s most likely just a fabulist — a fake.”
So essentially this story is less of the information not being available, but more that the usual pipeline where information flows up to nationwide outlets from local reporting has broken. We typically think of this solely in terms of the loss of local outlets, but this shows it’s maybe just as much the inability of the larger publications to pay attention to those that are left.
I mean…what the fucking fuck do you do??
A Heavily Armed Man Caused Panic at a Supermarket. But Did He Break the Law? https://nyti.ms/3Zh712v
Here’s a pic of what he was carrying on his trip to the supermarket…
That is not normal anywhere in the world. Fucking hell. Why the fuck would anyone nor looking to go crazy and shoot a place up carry that number and type of firearm.

Mr. Brant (his lawyer) said; he was “just being a person, doing what he had the right to do.”
After being released from custody ten months later , to face lesser charges , he said his client might suffer from mental illness and was awaiting a formal diagnosis.
He was off to the shooting range apparently.
… in his tank
lol , but no … and this is the funny bit …he didn’t have a car so he was having to lug all that gear around with him. He’d gone into the restroom in this supermarket to put his body armour on and clean his guns because a pot of guacamole had spilt all over them !
You couldn’t fucking make it up.
I had the misfortune of going to the supermarket to pick up a couple of things over the holidays. I don’t own a gun and it is not my thing, but after fighting the crowds and the queues I can half see where that fella was coming from!

Don’t ever go to pick up a few provisions in Avignon, you’d never come out again!
Is there any method for breaking a stalemate or do they just theoretically keep doing this forever?
