Wild story today that one of the NY house seats that flipped to the GOP was won by a man who has a seemingly entirely fabricated CV. The Wall St firms he claims to have made his money from have no record of him. The University he claims to have graduated from denies he was ever enrolled there. There are tons of strands to pull on this, such as how you can run an entire campaign, and do so in the biggest media market in the world (the seat is in Long Island, NYC) and have these easily verifiable things not identified by the press or the opposition campaign, but the biggest issue now appears to be where he got his money from, as not only did he fund his own campaign, but disclosed having spend a decent amount of money funding other campaigns.
This appears to be a pretty succinct description of what is now known
Tulsi Gabbard ran for President while being a full on cult member in the Science of Identity, and it didn’t even get mentioned. We’ve destroyed journalism so thoroughly that there just aren’t the people around to talk about this stuff and even if they did they would be ignored.
I remember 20 years ago David Simon defending the 5th season of the Wire, arguing the message about the importance of real local news was maybe the most important part of the entire show.
Representative Jamie Raskin, a Maryland Democrat, announced the following charges against Donald Trump had been recommended to the Department of Justice:
Obstruction of an official proceeding
Conspiracy to defraud the United States
Conspiracy to make a false statement
Inciting, assisting, aiding, or comforting an insurrection
These referrals are not legally binding, but Raskin said they have ample evidence to back up their recommendations.
The justice department is conducting its own separate investigation into the riot and hundreds of people have pleaded guilty to federal charges as a result.
Tied up with the release of the top level info of Trump’s tax returns comes the revelation that the IRS did not institute the review of Trump’s taxes as it is required to do of all Presidents during their first two years in office. So, what we had was:
Trump not voluntarily releasing his taxes, as is customary but not required, of all Presidential candidates because he claimed to be under audit. Tax experts claimed this was irrelevant and the IRS denied they had any audit ongoing, but this continued to be the story that Trump was allowed to use to justify hiding information on his financial situation
During Trump’s presidency funding for the IRS investigational units was slashed (continuing a trend, but definitely accelerating and exacerbating the problem), critically undercutting their ability to audit complex cases, the sort of audit that Trump and his business would be subject to. Historically these investigations have paid for themselves but cannot proceed without guaranteed funding A lesson from Trump taxes: An underfunded IRS is outmatched | AP News
Most of the info about that came about as a result of the cooperation of his buddy, Joel Greenburg. His sentencing was put off several times such was the extend of the information he was providing with his cooperation that the investigators were having to run down. He was finally sentenced a couple of weeks ago and the judge commented that in his 20 years on the bench he had never seen such an extensive criminality laid out in a cooperation deal as Greenburg provided.
Are they now going to come for him, with the information provided by Joel Greenburg?
There he was, bold as you like, sitting there in Congress nonplussed, when the nearest we have to a modern day Churchill was asking for help. He has been an inspirational wartime leader for Ukraine.
And the sniveling little shit, Matt Gaetz, sat there, silently passing judgment.
Whatever skeletons he has in the closet need to come out, and hopefully soon. He represents so much that is wrong with the Republican Party today and probably should be in jail.
I’m not sure why this isn’t called out for what it is. Terrorism. I find the whole “lone wolf” / “personal grievance” badges a bit of a cushioning to what this is. Even the term “vandalized” cushions the fact that critical power structures were attacked in a coordinated manner to maximize impact on the broader community.
Why the softly, softly almost apologetic reporting?
Noobs, it’s obvious he’ll be on Tucker Carlson soon enough and feted for owning the libs. He’ll then be on panels on every right wing show, podcast and production smiling away while telling everyone Jesus is lord and waffling along about foreign and domestic policy he doesn’t have a clue about but in a manner he knows will nonetheless resonate with all the idiots out there.
I was just reading about this clown in the NYT. Unbelievably , they reckon none of his lies will actually prevent him from being seated in January ( Cue the customary crickets from McCarthy) … but … he could very soon find himself in a world of pain ;
"Of greater potential concern are questions about Mr. Santos’s financial disclosures, where he reported earning millions of dollars from his company, the Devolder Organization.
Mr. Santos disclosed little about the operations of his company, and The Times could find no public-facing assets or other property tied to the firm. Mr. Santos also did not list any clients on his disclosures, despite the requirement that candidates list any compensation over $5,000 from a single source.
Intentionally omitting or misrepresenting information on a congressional financial disclosure is considered a federal crime. "
