Good point on holding onto information to gain an advantage over potential rivals, or enemies, in the political arena.
I agree with that. It’s at least that.
I might be a bit tin foil hat on this, but I think for Trump, everything is for sale. Whatever he can do to enrich himself, he will do. His loyalty to his bank account far exceeds any loyalty to his country, and as such, he was a disastrous choice for President.
What intelligence would a President receive that could be monetized by the wrong person? Would Trump know stuff that Saudi would want to know? China? Russia?
I think there was loads of scope for him to be bought and paid for, and he probably was, but his own hubris would have meant he thought he was in charge and in control.

Will be another Special Counsel Classic. Millions spent. No indictments.
The way he drags everyone he touches into his world of corruption , I’d imagine he has the goods on just about everyone.

I agree with this, with the caveat that you have to put it in the context of his uniquely broken world view. I dont think it’s normal selling secrets stuff. I think in his narcisistic world view this stuff is his and therefore his to profit from. The effect is the same, but do think it comes from a different, arguably much more borken place, than normal selling of state secrets

Nah , he’s not a sitting president remember.
I understand the jaded viewpoint, but I don’t think it is fair. There were very substantive issues in play.
If the political class had the sense of decency of years gone by, Trump would have been buried many times over.

Muller produced loads of indictments and the money it cost was recouped and then some from the assets they seized as a result of those indictments.
Now, Durham was a waste of time, but that is what happens when you appoint a political hack to prosecute an imagined issue. But dont use RW talking points to tar appropriately predicated investigations with the failures of Durham

If only SK had the power to sack him.
His massive political influence with his fans always helps get the right outcome, hopefully.
In a hypothetical matchup of Mr. Biden and former President Donald Trump, 48% of overall voters in the Washington Post-ABC poll favored Mr. Trump, while 45% preferred Mr. Biden. The difference was within the poll’s margin of error.
Among independents, 50% preferred Mr. Trump and 41% Mr. Biden.
‘hypothetical’ being the operative word. Faced with the reality of a potential second Trump Presidency , I don’t see those numbers holding.
Would still have to actually win the GOP nomination. Those numbers amid independents are a worry, though.
It’s extremely worrying that recent successes like the mid-terms, state of the union, slowing inflation etc are going to convince the Democrats that Biden is a viable candidate. Coupled with the lack of a clear alternative, they are about to commit electoral suicide and open the door to return of the worst possible result for democracy.
Not really politics but can anyone on your side of the pond please explain WTF is happening
It is a bizarre story for Taylor-Greene to try to get political mileage out of, considering her voting (or absenteeism) record on environmental issues. She was recently attacking Biden’s effort to repeal the Trump-era rule allowing rail transport of LNG, which would produce a much larger explosion.
It is a nightmare scenario. Vinyl chloride tanks derailed and burning, massive explosion, and an imminent risk of a much larger explosion preventing a proper clean-up. So a controlled burn was ordered, creating clouds of phosgene gas. That piece has outright lies in it - absolutely no one would be saying it would be safe, phosgene was used as a chemical weapon in WW1. It does sound like the evacuation was not executed well, may have been rushed - but in an emergency situation, well, chickens are going to be left behind.
