Ding Dong.....the US Politics Thread (Part 1)

Another scathing investigation of undisclosed conflicts among the Supreme Court justices is swirling now.

Alito had allegedly been contacted by ProPublica for his response to a piece on him and his undisclosed gifts they were getting ready to publish. Instead of responding he ran to the WSJ and overnight turned around an opinion piece refuting the allegations that had not yet even been made. There is a near unanimous reaction that his defenses are utterly absurd.

Why is a trip not declared a big deal? This pretty clearly articulates the issue

Leonard Leo, the driving force of the Federalist Society, is alleged to have been the match maker here between Alito and the Billionaire with business before the court. What is now becoming apparent is that Leonard Leo in addition to creating the pipeline for Conservatives justices to the Federal Courts, has also set up a patronage system in which his justices are partnered with rich benefactors who just coincidentally will have interests in cases that will be going in front of the court.

Gotta love those right wing ‘impartial’ justices.

Nose in the trough, good style. Thomas and now Alito with billionaire friends, buying favors.

Dont forget Gorsuch’s now infamous land deal. Kavannaugh is likely the the next one for the shoe to drop over those debts that magically disappeared.

Ooofff. For those who dont know, Carreyrou is the man responsible for breaking open the Theranos scandal with his reporting while working for the WSJ

Successful incrementalism

Biden has eaten so much shit in the past couple of months from his own party’s progressives for leaving the unions hanging over this and now…

Conservative Judge Michael Luttig who gave evidence at the Jan 6 hearings with a sober reading of just where the GOP find themselves today.

Unfortunately, the Republicans are completely intoxicated on their own vile moonshine.

It’s been discussed on this thread a couple of times, but people forget what his support was like at this stage in the nomination process in 2015-16. There has been an almost 180 degree turn within the party since he ran first time as back then he got the evangelicals on board only once he became the party’s guy and even then pretty reluctantly. But not they are largely the only ones who are left.

There is an element with that support where it is rewarding him for delivering on their needs with the court - they know he isnt a religious man but they only need him to be a vehicle for their desires. But there is a big portion of it that is explained by it being a group that is highly influenced by conspiratorial thinking. We are in a place where for a good 35% of the party every bit of further evidence that shows his complete lack of fitness for office will be seen as further proof that their conspiracy theory is valid and that he must therefore be their guy. I dont know where the exit ramp for this is

More silliness

Remember when fuckwits like Jimmy Dore said meh to the threat of Trump getting his tiny hands on SCOTUS appointments??

McConnell’s refusal to seat Garland will go down as one of the most internally damaging moments in US history.

I must have missed that period when people like Tim Pool and Dore were relevant in left wing circles because by the time I first heard of them they were already total shit for brains, the both of them.

There are still people who think they
are left wing :see_no_evil:

Supremes have really had quite the week. Voting patterns are striking, almost perfect ideological division.

He might be 80, but this guy knows how to party. They found the coke but not the strippers…yet.

Queue the same Republicans who remained silent when Trump had white stuff flying out of his nose on camera and Trump Jr spent the last seven years off his head, to suddenly start having a problem with drug use.

I wonder if Don, Jr. and Hunter ever hooted it up back in the day. There are no politics in a strip club, as far as people who go into those places tell me, because I never…

Murica. fuck yeah!

Reading this, I hesitate between :see_no_evil: and .
