Roberts as well.
we’re doomed imo
bloodbath in 2022 midterms, then tucker carlson beats copmala in 42 states in 2024
You should try do a leftist tea party on the Democrats. Not exactly, but you know what I mean. Might take some time though.
turns out i was wrong about alito, so it’s still three–roberts, kavanaugh, barrett
pathetic that the myth that these people are beyond ideology or partisanship persists
FWIW, there is a good podcast on NPR’s Throughline about Eugene Deb back in the spring or early summer - American Socialist.
Problem with O’Donnell’s analysis is that at this point, it has been thoroughly established that the left is capable of not voting for the Democrats, at the very least since 1988. That isn’t working either.
I see O’Donnell on TV from time to time, and he now looks much older than in that clip.
What year is that from?
At a guess, I would say probably about 15 years ago.
I think we will see a strong challenge from the progressive wing of the party in the next cycle, with pretty much every major house position either up for grabs (Engel) or incumbent having performed in a way that makes them vulnerable to a challenge. There will be press about Democratic infighting, because that’s what the press do, but the actual result wont look anything like what the tea party did. That is in part because the progressive version is still a faction that believes in government and doing it properly and they dont have the burn it all down approach available to them. For all the shit the likes of AoC get for being disruptive (in a negative way) she is quite pragmatic. Look at the way she has spoken about Biden and this election. She couldnt have been any more word perfect in terms of saying what the establishment wing of the party want her to say had she been reading lines given to her by Biden’s team.
The fact it used Gore-Lieberman as the footage suggests 2000-2004.
If there are apparently so many US voters whose views are not represented because neither of the main parties represent the left, why doesn’t a new party emerge? Surely they’d attract most of those staying at home protesters who feel unrepresented as well as a number who hold their nose to vote Biden because at least he isn’t Trump?
I seem to recall Ross Perot getting a lot of support for someone not standing for either the Republicans or the Democrats. He may not have been to the left enough, was he trying for the centre ground?
But surely there’s scope for a 3rd party to garnour significant support on policies at opposition to those of the established political parties. Unless those views that are currently not being represented are not as widely held within the US electorate as is maybe assumed?
Of course, such an alternative challenge also requires money and I’m not sure how many socialist billionaires there are. But perhaps with social media, with enough support and a sufficiently charismatic figurehead, it wouldn’t be impossible?
Buffett and Gates have clearly demonstrated a social conscience (to a degree) but never an inclination to run for office, afaik. Anyone following in their footsteps that might actually be prepared to put themselves forward as an alternative choice?
I agree with Limie there. People like AOC aren’t radical nor are their ideas imo. The Progressives should focus on getting more and more of that ilk in the House or even Senate. Might take some time and there will be setbacks, but at least it’s something to put some hope into.
If enough people null thier vote, it signals to the political party that change has to be made
I’m not advocating for it, but I understand it.
In a two horse race, there is a third horse because a null vote displays what the public’s appetite COULD be for the next cycle.
A vote FOR trump or Biden is just that.
The same argument is had over here in aus where people assume a vote not for the two major parties is a wasted vote.
Yep, get that. But why hasn’t an alternative emerged if the support for different politics is really there? That’s what happens in most other democracies.
it’s a good clip imo because o’donnell is an msnbc host who was also involved in the west wing, but mostly because it’s from 20 years ago and greider’s analysis perfectly summarizes this cycle
But why hasn’t an alternative emerged if the support for different politics is really there?
the FBI murdered fred hampton in his sleep but it doesn’t usually come to that
they have two parties portrayed as both bitter adversaries & polar opposites chasing after the same asset-owning boomers, most of everybody else just checks out
Does the answer involve lizard people?
I don’t believe that. If enough people spoil their votes, they’re just ignored.
