Not sure I agree. While more people died from Covid than during Vietnam, most historians would likely say that Kennedy faced greater problems with a resurgent Soviet Union that was at the time, more powerful than the US militarily as well as a newly confident China. Cuba Crisis was pretty bad…

Cuba was an irritation in January 1961, not much more. The economy was strong, and while there were fears of Soviet power, it was merely tension, not crisis.
