Ding Dong.....the US Politics Thread (Part 2)

Holy Fuck ! I think it’s time for Trump to start shitting his pants.

what a plea bargain for her, to get away with less than 10K in fines and “probation” in a case of attempted rigging of a presidential election.

And imagine what she’s offered up to get such a deal. Remember also that she’s an unindicted co-conspirator in Jack Smith’s Washington case and you can bet any money she’ll be getting called as a prosecution witness there too.

Happy days.

Hopefully it all means Trump will be disqualified from running, and preferably, will see some time inside jail. He has so much legal jeopardy it’s a joke. How can he even be seriously considered for office?

We’ve been here before though and he always wriggles free.
There will be serious unrest if he does ever go down.

I’m pretty sure he can not run, I can’t and I’m younger than him and carry 1/4 of the mass!

Problem is even if he can barely walk the republicans will carry him there.

Well much in the same way that Jim Jordan can. Over 200 Republicans in the House were perfectly willing to promote an insurrectionist to Speaker , and those same Representatives and the rabid base who elect them are also perfectly happy to see the guy who concocted the coup back in the White House.

Power is all that matters and it matters not a jot how it is achieved.

Another domino falls ;

I still cannot accept that CheeseBro is a real name

Anyway, Jordan now loses a majority of votes in his own caucus in a secret ballot

Cheney 2024 ?

He’ll be running for office next

I wish Cheney would run. Unfortunately the momentum of the MAGA machinery would likely squish her. It’s why she lost her seat in Wyoming last year.

But she continues to be a serious and sensible voice in American politics, and her message about the danger of Trump needs to gain traction.

I long for a much better time, when the leadership and direction of the country boiled down to a political debate. Do you like the policies of the left, or the right? For most people it might be blended, but when you laid out all the viewpoints you had a clear preference, and if enough felt the same way… hey presto, that’s how a President would come to power.

Trump is something else, and Cheney could not have been more clear in saying that must be avoided, for the future of the country.

From what she’s said in the past , she’s under no illusions that she could ever become President , but if by running she could lessen Trump’s chances of getting re-elected , then she would be prepared to do it.

No matter how much I disagree with her politics , since Jan 6 she has been one of the most impressive political figures in the US.

The bar is so low. She was a power over democracy Republican before Trump was on the scene. Her issue was not her rejection of someone trying to steal an election. It was her unwillingness to out over her skis on such a clumsily put together plan for someone whose vision for the GOP did not match hers.

Despite what MAGA has done to her standing, she still finds plenty of common ground with them.

Republicans came to an agreement earlier today that Tom Emmer would be their speaker nominee, one of the few Republican house members who voted to certify the 2020 presidential election.

He’s already removed himself from consideration without it even going to a house wide vote :joy:
