At the most basic level, the âTrump projectâ, one that he is barely conscious of, is the unwinding of the New Deal state. Rhetorically, they are focusing some of the regulatory structures that emerged in the '60s and '70s, but their target is much more comprehensive.
It is sort of mind-blowing that the heartland of support for tearing down the New Deal state is a region that didnât really have widespread electricity until the creation of the TVA as part of the New Deal.

Itâs because they mistake the ill-gotten gains of controversial billionaires thinking that those vast sums of money were also amassed in a meritocracy much like themselves.
Therefore, they reason, that whatever bile these billionaires are proselytising must be true. And they become bandwagon jumpers.

I rewatched Interstellar night before last. I had forgotten about the moon denial stuff and the plot reasoning in place at the beginning of the movie.
