It’s kind of forgotten now, but Trump going full bore into the Republican establishment, and Jeb personally, over the Iraq war was a huge part of Trump’s original rise in popularity and even validity. It was the issue that really identified him as the outsider people were looking for, and him eviscerating Jeb in one of the early primary debates is to this day probably his most effective moment in politics.

Yet here he is, allowing his populist presidency to be taken back to the single most unpopular idea of the Bush presidency over something he surely doesnt actually give a shit about.

I am switching to Independent because I am a proud, dignified human who walks alone.

I can just see the 28 Dems’ pitch: if you don’t vote, you are voting Vance.

Trump jumping into the continuing resolution fray, disrupting what looked like a bipartisan agreement. Rather amusing that part of his demands are that Congress increase the debt limit, which is usually something the Republicans insist should not happen - even though it has to just to make interest payments already locked in place.

Government potentially begins a shutdown after a Friday midnight deadline.

The American people wanted this sociopathic clown show, but for the rest of us, it’s frightening (sure, for many Americans as well, but far from enough). US influence has long tendrils. In Norway we have seen the effects of MAGA the last decade. It’s becoming increasingly accepted on the right. Frightening. But no, I am not worried that he is going to invade Canada, but unless Canada elects a pro Trump government, the US will be hostile.

How is America subsidizing Canada to the tune of 100 Billion? He is obviously wrong, but what is the rationale for his claim? Is it - erroneously - based on anything?

Also, the talk about Canada as the 51st state is alarming. Canada is magnificent in so many ways - size, resources and beauty. The typical Canadian seems much closer in world view and outlook on life to someone from Western Europe than someone who might be found in the Trump orbit.

Obviously Canada is a diverse place, but the general sensibility of the people strikes me as anathema to Trump.

If only enough Americans saw it like that too…

Where are the Canadian fascists? No doubt they’re pulling the strings behind the scenes evilly forcing Canadians to have health care and gun control.

Oops my mistake. Must read more carefully. 100 million it is then.

Chump change. That’s just a shipment of maple syrup or something.

Still, it boggles the mind why Trump is talking about Canada, a sovereign state and ally, as some sort of 51st state possibility.

Trudeau needs to start talking about the potential to the south of the border, and how with better governance, America could even aspire to be an 11th Canadian Province :joy:

It is the US trade deficit with Canada in goods from about 7 years ago - it was a number he remembered Lighthizer saying apparently.

What about Alaska? That seems more like part of Canada if you look at the map. Canada should raise that next time Trump starts Trumping.

Why is Trump acting like he’s already the president? Why is Musk acting like he was elected?
