Diogo JOTA: 2020/21

Sorry, Boss. Not training today. Too good an opportunity to rest.

Chances to get injured in training are also much lower than in games - and it doesn’t really matter if it’s a friendly or the World Cup Final.

You’re being silly.

The point is whether it is necessary to put key players through 90mins of footy at a time when Klopp himself has said they are playing too many games.

Midgyland were leave some very shithouse challenges on us, and that shouldn’t have been a surprise as they were the same at Anfield.

Admittedly, but other attempts to express how “rest” was not he needed had not registered.

I’m on the side of the fence that he shouldn’t have played. We couldn’t finish lower than top. They couldn’t finish higher than bottom. Classic dead rubber (prize money, personal accolades and fitness notwithstanding).

Several have spoken of the money we get per CL group win, though even with a stronger team than expected, we didn’t win! Not as many have spoken of player desire for personal goals, e.g. Mo breaking LFC CL scoring record.

The point that has registered to me is that playing actual games, because they are so close together, is an important part of the players fitness regime.

That’s a fair point.

So, to engage it a little, 87 mins for Jota seemed a bit too much, if the goal was to give him a run out to keep his match fitness ticking over. I would have thought 45 mins would suffice, and even then, it was clear early on that they were piling in to our players, putting in some very robust tackles, as is their right I suppose, but it just looked like injury - avoidable injury - was on the cards.

Be all that as it may, what happened, happened. No amount of discussion changes a single thing! But I am concerned that injuries in one part of the pitch blow over to another part of the pitch, as other departments get stretched as they cover. What started with a defensive injury list is spreading into other areas of the park as the whole team and squad compensate.

What we have to do is find a way to manage. I keep saying this season is a war of attrition. The players have to dig deep. Ideally we buy a very good defender in January to help us hold it together, and we may yet win the league.

As for the CL, Leipzig will be a tough test. Nagelsmann is a fine young coach and may possibly want to get one over on Jurgen, sort of putting a marker down for future reference when we will need to look for another manager in a few years. He is definitely one to watch.

That thought crossed my mind.

 Annoyed that he is recovering and cannot play in real life, and he can’t take a pen with the opposition keeper stuck behind the net in FIFA 2020/21.

I miss this guy, anyone have updates that I don’t have to search for?

And I’m also boycotting EA Sports till they sort his card out.

We miss him… That Champions League game he started which was entirely avoidable had cost us 4 points in the league. He would have made the difference against the likes of Brighton and West Brom. Miss him. Its all gone quiet on his front. Any updates on his return date?

We could be 7 points ahead in the league by now but then Klopp decided to sacrifice Jota like a lamb in Denmark.

Really?

Rideo Twitterati…

Track me down an update on this fella.

Since you asked, I feel three events within our control have the capacity to markedly improve our somewhat listing form…

Thiago :white_check_mark:
Jota
A new CB :interrobang: :interrobang: :interrobang:

(whilst you’re at it, update me on the CB purchase also…)

Jurgen Klopp reveals Diogo Jota is still wearing a brace on his knee injury and is “a few weeks away” from team training.

Early February like I was hearing, don’t think so. He is still wearing that brace just like 14 days ago when @Nobluff posted a similar report.
