Diogo JOTA: 2020/21

Would be nice to have him for the Fulham (March 7) game. Too early!!!

Wonder if heā€™s any good at CB?

To be honest at least he is coming back when we still have one competition left to go for, doubt he plays at the weekend though with this new head of performance Iā€™m not sure if the two further weeks he gives is supposed to help the player hit the road straight away.

No need to rush. Send him as substitute against Chelsea & Fulham and start him against Leipzig.

Eeerm, have you watched us recently? He canā€™t come back soon enough.

Iā€™m not saying that we rest him for rest of the season. He has just recovered from a serious injury and lengthy layoff so itā€™s better to phase him in. That way there will be less chance of injury.

Be nice to look at the bench and see a player or two who might change it.

With recent events (Hendoā€™s injury, which is not minor) Jota back now, I think weā€™ll flip to 4-2-3-1 more often. Maybe not always straight from the start, sometimes during games, but more often for sure.

Weā€™ve been erring toward 4231 recently. The problem I see is the double pivot it seems clear Gini and Thiago arenā€™t balanced defensively there needs to be someone who can tackle there. With Hendo out and Fabs in defense that only leaves Milner (who is a bit slow).
Oh! and also how do you see the attacking roles the1 up top?
Ideally it would be Jota I think however for balance in midfield it would haave to be Salah with Jota taking the LW, Mane the RW.
Firmino will surely be the 10!

I think Gini and Thiago could be good together in a double pivot. Not a lot of height, but good balance. It would allow us to play Thiago at LCM, the left sided double six, which he mostly played at Bayern. And allow Gini to help the balance on our weaker right side. More protection for CBā€™s. Sure, that switch doesnā€™t really suit Jones and Milner, especially Milner, as Jones is young and flexible (could also play on the narrow sides, which is not too different from the offensive #8 in a 4-3-3). In the current situation, maybe weā€™d trust them too. We did play a bit in the 4-2-3-1 with Jota earlier in the season and he went to the right side in some games (we probably thought Mane deserves more to stay in his best position). Weā€™ll see, but I expect us to flip it more with Jota back.

Is he likely to be available for the weekend?

It really hasnā€™t been working recently. Thereā€™s just not the muscle on the defensive side. However the most dissappointing aspect of this duo is their lack of support play, cover and movement in possession. Anyway weā€™ll see!

As for Jota and ManĆ© which ever goes to the RW position will need time to adapt, Iā€™ll go with whatever Klopp and his coaches feel if this, 4231, becomes a solution. In any case itā€™s just hypothetical.

I think it would be good for Jones as his outing will be reduced and perhaps Klopp will feel more relaxed about leaving him on for 90 mins knowing he can rest him more.

i think hes only two weeks away

I donā€™t think he will be (or should be) in the squad after just few days of proper training after such a long lay-off. I think Chelsea is a more realistic option specially considering the fact that we have been afforded just two days break before that game.

Really depends what this 2 weeks thing with the new physio manager is all about.

I would love to see him on the bench just to give me some hope if we go one down.

Seems he might have a chance of making the squad.
