Even more, these paid partnership ones are done an agreed schedule, often these days automated. It was likely this post, with this pic, was scheduled to post after this game months ago.
It’s not a good look, but I think this is where the club needs to think on if it’s gone too far on paid partnerships and maybe consider if they want to put some guidelines in place to better manage optics
“Every player that comes here from the day he steps in here, the minute he steps in here, he’s being watched, he’s being scrutinized and then we’re reading him like a book…”
Only posting this here because I think Szoboszkai is the worst offender - he certainly isn’t the only one.
Someone at the club needs to get hold of these lads and work on the optics of their social media activity, especially after losses. Seeing Dom Swanning round on some fucking Mediterranean mini-break after being twatted by a relegation team is not helping the mood around the club.
Yeah I think we could sell our entire midfield bar the player we seem to actually be touting for sale (Curtis) and the most talented player on our squad by far (Flo). Macca and Dom don’t look like they are going to do enough for us under, the seemingly likely, Arne Slot coaching next season. Then again do we want new players to learn about Liverpool under him?
I’m not Szobo’s biggest fan, especially after the “new Gerrard” sort of reaction just after signing for us. Already then and in the first two seasons for us, I found him a bit overrated. But recently, as other people got to know him better, I think a lot of people are underrating him and going a bit too far with the “wish we could change our whole midfield” thing.
We cannot change that much, it’s not possible. And some of these players showed already that they can be part of a winning side here. Szobo is definitely a player I want us to keep (not at all cost though, nobody can get anything they want). But I don’t even see what other club will come in big for him. Why would Real need him? They need a different type in midfield. So I’m calm.
Could change not wish to change. Re Dom my point is I’d be sanguine selling him for a fee that allows us to build a midfield better suited to the two that must stay: Flo and Curtis. I personally think Macca and Endo should be sold and would be open to more going if it helps the balance. My big problem is I don’t think this much needed change will actually be sufficient if Arne is still there. I also don’t want us changing the side to fit Arne and then having our next manager come in latter in the year and through an Amorim.
We cannot change sides or that much from coach to coach. We have to recruit well and that is always the aim, whether we buy 1 or 10 new players, but coaches also have to use what they have.
And Slot or whoever our head coach is, that person is just one piece of the recruitment team. Last summer, we had some unfortunate events of different sorts, but also made some moves that altogether didn’t make much sense. And then it translated onto the pitch.
We’ll see what we can do in terms of net spend, nobody here can know about that for sure in terms of who we’ll have to sell, etc. And only the market will dictate what kind of offers arrive for players who we’d sell or we’d be open to hear offers.
I genuinely don’t think you’re the only one. He’s a good player capable of great moments and has a place in a great team that will enhance that but that’s about it. He was our player of the season almost by default and in my opinion probably one of the worst best player of the season we’ve had in my memory.
As I said before, I don’t think that he hasn’t the leadership qualities required to captain the club, or to play any meaningful leadership role. But as @Zoran said, he’s still a good player who can suddenly draw a piece of magic out of his hat when required. He certainly deserves to be a piece of the jigsaw for us when we become competitive again.
I’d also be prudent before unnecessarily selling further players of our 2024-2025 champions. He knows how to win the league title, he was a full part of that team, and that is precious. Also, he’s versatile enough to be playing several different roles on the pitch. I’d keep him, but please, don’t let him get too much influence on the club’s culture.
We don’t trust Hughes and Edwards to do anything yet we want them to tear up the last part of Liverpool 2.0 that Klopp put in place. There lies the crux of this, these players were less vibes under Klopp, the whole club needs a complete change in management from Hughes down until that happens its basically adding a new 17th century painting to an old house thats about to fall down.
No player comes out of this season with any credit and that includes Salah.
