While the two deals seem separate, they are quite possibly well interlinked.

We couldn’t get a good offer for Carvalho since he played so little. But we are convinced of his quality and know that he will be worth more in the future. Carhalvo fits Leipzig’s buy-to-sell model. Now they can test the product before agreeing to our valuation.

But we didn’t include a buy-out clause for FC so why would they want to sell one of their top rated talents to us?

I remember reading about Naby when he was in Austria identifying him as the next star out of Africa. The piece referenced Mane being his idol and someone whose Salzburg connections had been used to turn him into a mentor like figure for him. The general thrust of the piece was that he was absolutely perfect for Liverpool’s new brand of football and I started vibing it, and then a couple of years later the move came kind of out of no where.

This proposed move has a lot of the same vibes. I know 3 or 4 of us have been talking about him as a really attractive prospect who seems to be a perfect fit since he was in Austria. I think talk about pioked up during the world cup qualifiers with the Hungary-England games, but there was never anything in the press indicating he was a real target. And then…
