I will definitely visit Mona to bring me back to reality that there are art that is mediocre compared to mine.
And not on a world tour haha, first time back in OZ since COVID. Going through Melbourne but I have been to Melbourne very often in the past so thought of finally visiting Tasmania but with only 4 days, I decided on renting a car and base myself in Hobart and doing day drive trips.
And yea I saw Wrest point as an option but in casinos do they on the volume because some casinos I saw in the past they just play the matches without sound
More recommendations welcome!
Bruny Island
Penguins at Bicheno
Freycinet
Port Arthur
The food is great, landscape beautiful, shame you don’t drink wine.
Just be careful talking to any of the locals with two heads although they’re more acclimated to Launceston and Burnie.
Just talk to the one on your left. You can never go wrong when you focus on one. I think its a bit true that Hobartians look down on those from the North, which is a little ironic given how isolated Hobart is from everything.
If you had more time I could have given you advice on where to go - some fucking amazing walks if you had the time. But I agree with @Bekloppt - Tasman Peninsula and if you have time further up the East Coast to Freycinet and the coast North of that. Tasman peninsula is more within reach though, if over the weekend, Salamanca Markets (they were ok back in my day and I would imagine are still reasonably good), Mt Wellington, Battery Point.
I lived at Sandy Bay during Uni but wouldn’t have a clue outside the caz where to watch EPL football.

My youngest lad when he was working in Australia a year or two back, took the opportunity and went to Tasmania for a couple of weeks…
Remember him saying to me “Dad, that Tasmania was an unusual place”…
So when looking for something to watch on TV last week, and with a wide grin on his face, he says, " We should watch this "… and puts this box set series on that was filmed, as you can guess, in Tasmania…!
Jeeeeze, I have only watched the first three episodes to date… and I can honestly say… hand on heart, I have no idea what it is that I am watching, witnessing, or even trying to absorb…!!
I mean WTF…! :0)
Lion is a good film to see the nice sides of South Tasmania.
Thanks for the recommendations I am based in Sandy Bay coincidentally maybe in one of those student airbnbs. Just want to take it easy, wished I had more time to go to cradle mountain but guess it’s better to leave it next trip
my only memory of that region is Cascade Lager…
Some very good wines from Tassie, and they do a decent Whisky.

If my family are anything to go by, the new in thing is Tassy gin.
You mean I would see this right out from the airport?
Nah that’s more likely to be hanging at MONA
pretty fucking sad situation for the aboriginals in Australia. They’ve been getting shit on for the past century, plus some.
I think their situation down there has been paralleled up here by Canada’s residential school situation where they’ve been finding thousands of graves of young indigenous children going back to colonial times via the Commonwealth. enforced by the RCMP of all groups. sad state of affairs.
Has read sparingly about the situation, so in general is the current government’s push for this widely accepted as the way forward or not?
i expect to bet shat on from a great height here…but…
its not inherintly racist to vote ‘no’ to the proposed changes by the Albanese Government.
its simply possible to agree that changes need to continue to be made to assist first nations people, whilst similtanously not trusting the government to bugger this completely up
after all of the noise about yes and no, and racists and woke marshmellow softies, and the general divisive nature of politics circa 2023 one cant but help wonder that there isnt an easier way for a government to look after its people than to throw a divisive referendum up thats possibly not even needed?
its almost like they want to set mate against mate…first australians vs the traditional european migrant…why change the constitution when you can just set up an advisory body anyway…
i can completely see WHY Donald Trump got the traction he got…(thats not to say i cant see through the veil…its just that i understand why people just want something different)
It’ll probably be split down the middle between progressives and traditionalists like the Republic referendum or Brexit.

easiest way to control a nation, is to divide it. it’s a pattern all too familiar these days.

So, what’s your proposal for acknowledging the rights of aboriginal people in their land?
do they not have any rights?
