So, those of you who’ve been following my blog (I’ve got a cousin who used to call her Facebook page ‘her blog’), will remember my planned trip up to Byron Bay and will be wondering what happened about that. Unfortunately, my mum got ill, and I had to fly to the UK for three weeks and the trip was postponed. Now we’re going at the beginning of March. Probably better in terms of crowds etc.
I’ll be posting beach pics and other annoying stuff.
You have picked a nice part of the world at a good time of year. Magnificent beaches in those towns and the Port Mac walk is great via Flynn’s beach cafe towards the lighthouse.
For all its beauty and hippy past, Byron has been taken over by the tourist and wealthy celeb types. Still worth going love Watogos beach.
Great place and part of the world - enjoy the trip.
Cyclone Alfred is predicted to pass 30km to the South of us in Maroochydore. Lots of panic buying in the supermarket (yes, toilet paper disappearing off the shelves… Such a perfect representation of ‘first world problems’).
Currently tracking as a cat 2 but will see if that strengthens or dissipates as it changes course towards Australia.
The surf up here has been epic though.
Yeah, everyone’s talking about it. We’re not arriving in Byron until Monday, so hoping the worst will be over by then. Good luck to you though!
I don’t think the wind will be too damaging. Here at work in the council it’s more prepping for storm surges since Noosa is on a tidal river and much of the population are barely above sea level. There have been lineups for sandbags at the local SES depots.
Another first world problem is the start of the AFL in Brissy is at risk due to the cyclone.
Byron could be a bit messy. Might have to head to the local bars instead of the beach.
9m waves and 700mm rainfall - This is going to be messy af when it hits land. Hope you boys stay safe
Veering further south over Northern Brissy so based on the predictions, I won’t be getting hit as hard.
I hate to think of the damage we are going to see across Brisbane and the GC.
9 meter waves at landfall?!? Holy crap. How fast does the land rise there, that must be projected to produce massive flooding
@Bekloppt you may have unfortunately picked the wrong time to head to Byron my friend. Looks like it is just about to be carnaged.
How is it up that way at the moment?
It reminds me of Christmas, 1990 when I was trapped in the Kuranda Rain Forest resort as a cat. 5 cyclone hit Cairns. An exciting time, although being without power and water for a few days wasn’t much fun.
We’ll be in South West Rocks when it hits. Not in the warning zone, but it’ll be fun, no doubt.
Not in Byron until Monday, by which time the worst will be over hopefully.
Taking an Aussie attitude to it all.
Now in Port Macquarie. Somehow ended up with a swanky hotel suite overlooking the sea. Apparently there’s been a lot of cancellations for some reason.
It’s pretty calm here. Cloudy and showery, but warm. Not too windy.
South West Rocks was really nice. We didn’t get to explore as much as we wanted with the weather, but I’d love to go back.
Fingers crossed for everyone north of here. It looks like the storm has lessened in strength, which is good news, but there’s bound to be considerable damage.
My friend in Queensland locks herself at home. She is only 30kg and she sees shopping carts flying in the air
I read that as 2 separate sentences
Meow.
